Field Hockey Defeats New Paltz, 1-0, in Regular Season Finale

Izzo's first career goal sends the Brewers to its third straight victory

New Paltz, NY - First year Audrey Izzo scored her first career goal with just under nine minutes left in regulation to send the Vassar College Field Hockey team to its third straight victory with a 1-0 triumph over New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. Vassar finishes the regular season at 11-6 overall while the Hawks drop to 10-8 to close the regular season.

How It Happened
  • Vassar recorded the only two shots on goal in the first period as first years Autumn Dowiak and Sophia Jammar each had strong chances stopped by Gail Comiskey.
  • In the third quarter, junior Grace Wiley made two key saves to keep the game scoreless followed by New Paltz defender Madeline Meyer recording a defensive save just before the end of the third quarter to keep the game scoreless.
  • Sophomore Sophie Rosenblum made a big defensive save, the second of her career, in the early stages of the fourth quarter to keep the game knotted at zero.
  • Meyer made yet another defensive save with 10 minutes remaining in regulation for the Hawks.
  • The Brewers finally struck off a penalty corner with just under nine munutes left in regulation as Izzo knocked home her first career goal off an assist from sophomore Mackenzie Allen.
  • New Paltz had two chances in the final five minutes as Wiley made a save on Miranda Britton and Rachel Tama's last second shot off a corner went wide.
For The Brewers
  • Izzo scored her first career goal and game-winning goal while Allen registered her third assist of the season.
  • Rosenblum made her first defensive save of the season and Wiley made three saves for the fifth shutout of the season in goal.
For The Hawks
  • Tama recorded four shots, including one on target while Britton fired two shots on net.
  • Meyer tallied two defensive saves and Comiskey made five saves in goal for the Hawks.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar held a slim advantage in shots at 10-9 and shots on goal at 8-4.
  • The Brewers also had a 8-3 edge in penalty corners.
