Troy, NY – For the second straight week two Vassar College Women's Soccer student-athletes have earned Weekly Awards from the Liberty League. Senior
Lindsey Nihei (Honolulu, HI) has been named the conference's Defensive Performer of the Week, while First Year
Sonya Franklin (Lancaster, PA) has been tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week.
In the Brewers' only contest of the week, they traveled to #24 RIT and stifled the Tigers in a 2-0 victory. Nihei helped anchor the backline that surrendered just one shot on goal and helps lead a group that is allowing just 0.64 goals per game, a mark that is tops in the Liberty League.
Franklin collects Rookie of the week honors after recording an assist on the eventual game winning goal in the 21
st minute on Saturday. With Saturday's point, Franklin moves into a tie for the team lead in points (12) and ranks fourth in the Liberty League in points per game (1.20).
Winners of its last three games, Vassar holds a 9-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark against league rivals. The Brewers return home to Gordon Field on Wednesday when they play host to conference foe Union.
