Vassar Earns Road Draw At #17 Hobart

Fiske tallies for Vassar

Geneva, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team took to the road Saturday afternoon and earned a hard fought 1-1 draw at #17 Hobart. Senior Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) scored his team leading 11th goal with sophomore Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) recording his team leading 11th assist.
 
Saturday's result moves Vassar to 7-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the Liberty League with Hobart remaining unbeaten at 10-0-3 overall and 5-0-2 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar struck first on Saturday when Toboski found Fiske at the 32:30 mark of the contest to send Vassar into the intermission with a 1-0 lead.
  • Despite trailing by a goal at halftime, Hobart held an 8-7 advantage in shots at the break and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Vassar goalkeeper, Patrick Gale (San Antonio, TX), made one first half save to keep the Statesmen off the board.
  • Hobart netminder, Tommy Chyzowych, turned aside a single Vassar shot heading into halftime.
  • Vassar maintained the advantage until the final 20 minutes when the Statesman found the equalizer with just under 18 minutes left to play.
  • Brady Leitner brought Hobart even at a goal apiece when he was on the end of a Quinn Phillips feed at 72:16.
  • Tobolski got off two shots in the final five minutes, including an attempt in the closing seconds that went out to the left.
  • Hobart finished the second frame with a commanding 16-3 advantage in shots and took the only three corner kicks of the frame.
  • Although the Statesmen got off 16 attempts, they only put three shots on frame with Gale making a pair of saves in the second half.  
  • Chyzowych kept Vassar off the board after halftime with a single save.
 
For The Brewers
  • Fiske found the back of the net for the team leading 11th time and moves his point total to 26 on the season.
  • Tobolski pushed his team lead in assists to 11 and points to 26 with Saturday's assist.
  • Tobolski led the team with five shots, including two on goal.
  • Gale made three saves in goal for the Brewers.
 
For The Statesmen
  • Leitner potted his team leading eighth goal of the season.
  • Phillips added his second helper of the year and became the third Hobart player with 10 points on the year.
  • Gabe Smith finished with a team-high four shots.
  • Chyzowych closed the game with a pair of saves for the Statesmen.
 
Game Statistics
  • Hobart finished with a convincing 24-10 edge in overall shots, but managed just a 4-3 advantage in shots on target.
  • The Statesmen held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Fouls in the game went against Hobart, 13-7.
 
What's Next
  • Next up for the Brewers is the non-conference finale at Middlebury on Tuesday.
  • Hobart travels to Union on October 25.
