Madison, NJ – The Vassar College Men's Tennis team put together a strong effort on Friday on day one of the ITA Northeast Regional Championship hosted by Drew. Three players won singles matches on Friday and the doubles team of
Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) and
Henry Zhang (Zhengzhou, China) won two matches, advancing to the quarterfinal round of the doubles draw.
Singles
- Bauermeister won the opening singles match on Friday, ousting TCNJ's Siddharth Arudi 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.
- Bauermeister suffered a hard fought 4-6, 5-7 loss to Nicholas Fischer from Hobart in the Second Round on Friday.
- James Balon (Winnetka, IL) also turned in a First Round victory for the Brewers, easing past David Cattan from Yeshiva 6-0, 6-0.
- Balon battled hard in the Second Round before succumbing to Rochester's Krish Vennam 6-7, (1-7), 4-6.
- First Year Joseph Braun (Albuquerque, NM) was the third Brewer to score a First Round victory in singles play on Friday with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Chris Chippari from Oneonta.
- In the Second Round, Braun dropped a marathon 2-6, 6-1, 13-11 decision to Skidmore's Yuval Goodman.
Doubles
- Both of Vassar's doubles pair earned victories on Friday, with Bauermeister and Zhang posting a pair of wins to advance to the quarterfinals of the draw.
- In their first match, the Brewers' top pair defeated their opponents from Hamilton 8-4.
- In the second match of the day, Bauermeister and Zhang outlasted the opponents from St. Lawrence in a hard fought 8-7 (7-5) victory.
- Vassar's second pair of Arnav Agostinho (Brooklyn, NY) and Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) battled their way to an 8-7 (7-4) First Round win over a pair of Oneonta.
- In the Second Round, the duo suffered an 8-3 defeat at the hands of a team from TCNJ.

- Bauermeister and Zhang will compete in the doubles draw on Saturday.
