Vassar Kicks-Off 2024 Season Friday Night At Elms

Simons begins fourth year on the sidelines Friday night

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team begins its fourth season under the mentorship of head coach Keith Simons Friday night when it travels to Elms to play the first of three straight road games to open the season. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Chicopee, MA with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance
  • Vassar posted an 8-4-5 overall record in 2023, including a 2-2-5 mark against Liberty League opponents.
  • The Brewers scored a pair of victories against nationally ranked opponents in 2023, topping #16 Scranton and #21 Wesleyan by identical 2-1 scores.
  • Vassar returns a pair of All-Liberty League selections from a season ago with Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) earning a Second Team citation and Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) garnering Honorable Mention accolades.
  • Vassar welcomes back its top five goal scorers and point producers from the 2023 season.
 
Captains
  • Simons has selected a trio of seniors as team captains for the 2024 season with the leadership group consisting of Riley Lipman (Westport, CT), Namba and London Wilkes (Santa Monica, CA).
 
Forward/Midfield
  • Namba returns as a Second Team All-Liberty League honoree in 2023 after producing four points on the strength of two goals a season ago.
  • Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA) and Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) return after leading the Brewers with four goals apiece in 2023. Panarelli also sat atop the team leaderboard with a pair of game winning goals.
  • Rodriguez, an Honorable Mention All-League pick, paced Vassar with five assists and nine points in 2023, chipping in a pair of goals which included a game winning marker.
  • Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) is back after potting a pair of goals in 2023 along with Lucy Getzin (Ithaca, NY) who found the back of the net once last season.
  • Wilkes and Sophomore Grace Romano (Bordentown, NJ) each return to the fold in 2024 with Wilkes scoring once last season and Romano adding an assist.
  • A talented crop of newcomers will look to add to the offensive output in 2024 with Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO), Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA), Mollie McLaughlin (Seattle, WA), Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) and Diana Loera (Chula Vista, CA) entering the mix in 2024.
 
Midfield/Defense
  • Vassar returns to seven players to help anchor the backline in 2024, including Lipman who was limited to just three games a season ago due to injury.
  • Lindsey Nihei (Honolulu, Hawaii) appeared in all 17 games a season ago as a sophomore, making six starts, and chipping in an assist.
  • Junior Jessica Bowman (Larchmont, NY) appeared in 15 games and made five starts in 2023 with Allie Foote (West Chester, PA) appearing in eight games and making one start.
  • A trio of sophomores return in 2024, including Maddie Wolf (Mars, PA) who saw time in 13 games, including three starts, and totaled a goal and three points as a First Year.
  • Cecelia Wager (Brookline, MA) appeared in 15 games and started five times, with Alex Astalos (Tarzana, CA) seeing time in a pair of contests as a rookie.
  • Junior Lily Brigman (Mebane, NC) also returns for the Brewers for teh 2024 season. 
  • A trio of newcomers join a defensive unit that surrendered only 10 goals in 2023 highlighted by Olivia Spektor (Lawrenceville, NJ), Sarah Bowler (Salt Lake City, UT) and Kloe Brown (Forney, TX).
 
Goalkeeper
  • The Brewers will carry four goalkeepers on the 2024 rosters, featuring returners JD Reigrut (Lone Tree, CO) and Bella Stevens (Ann Arbor, MI).
  • Vassar will be tasked with replacing Teresa Zimmer who totaled eight shutouts in 2023 while posting a 0.54 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.  
  • Reigrut has appeared in 11 games to date for the Brewers covering just over 715 minutes. Reigrut holds a 3-3-1 record with a shutout to go along with 17 career saves.
  • Stevens started a pair of games as a First Year, earning the victory in each contest, totaling five saves and posting a .714 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average.
  • Vassar welcomes a pair of First Years who will vie for minutes between the pipes in Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) and Olivia Sandrew (San Diego, CA).
 
The Schedule
  • The 2024 schedule features eight challenging non-conference games, including five on the road.
  • The Brewers are in action at home for the first time on September 11 when they play host to Western Connecticut with Oneonta and NYU coming to town on September 18 and 21, respectively.
  • Liberty League play opens with a home date against Bard on September 25 before Vassar closes out September with a trip to Union on September 28.
  • October begins with a visit to non-conference foe Farmingdale State before the Brewers play four of their next five games at home. Vassar hosts Skidmore on October 5 and following a trip to perennial power William Smith, the Brewers host a three-game homestand featuring games against St. Lawrence, Clarkson and Ithaca.
  • Vassar rounds out the regular season with a pair of road games at RPI (10/30) and RIT (11/2).
  • The six-team Liberty League Championship opens on November 5 with the Semifinal Round set for November 8. The 2024 Liberty League Champions will be crowned on Sunday, November 10.
