Women’s Tennis Cruises Into Liberty League Championship Match

Brewers sweep Union, advance to seventh straight title match

 
Ithaca, NY – The top seeded and #34 Vassar College Women's Tennis team swept Union 5-0 Saturday afternoon to record its 14th straight victory and advance to its seventh straight Liberty League Championship match. The Brewers swept the doubles competition and received singles wins from Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) and Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) to clinch the victory.
 
Vassar, who will take on Skidmore in the championship match for the seventh straight season, improves to 16-3 on the season, while Union's season comes to a close at 11-8.
 
Doubles
  • Vassar opened a commanding 3-0 advantage after posting a sweep of Saturday's doubles competition.
  • The top pair of McCusker and Macey Dowd (Orinda, CA) improved to 11-7 on the season with a hard fought 8-7 (7-1) victory.
  • Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) and First Year Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC) moved their record to 13-4 on the season with an impressive 8-1 win at the second position.
  • Krishnan and Elyse Duley (Charlotte, NC) continued their dominance at third doubles, winning their 12th straight decision and moved to 15-2 on the season with an 8-4 victory for the Brewers.
 
Singles
  • Vassar entered the singles competition needing just a pair of victories with Krishnan and McCusker finishing off the contest.
  • Krishnan scored a 6-1, 6-1 fourth singles victory, winning for the 12th straight outing and improving to 15-2 on the season, including a perfect 8-0 mark at the fourth position.
  • McCusker clinched Saturday's win at the top spot, posting a convincing 6-0, 6-4 victory for the Brewers. The win pushed McCusker to 15-3 overall on the season at the top flight.
  • At the time the match concluded Dowd, Kirby and Duley were all leading their respective matches.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar will meet Skidmore in the title match for the seventh straight season at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
  • The Brewers are looking for their first league championship since 2010 and their 10th in program history.
