Poughkeepsie, NY – The #30 Vassar College Women's Tennis team picked up its seventh straight victory on Sunday afternoon, edging Division II St. Thomas Aquinas 4-3. Sophomore
Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) won for the 11
th straight time in singles play and the third doubles pair of
Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) and
Elyse Duley (Charlotte, NC) won for the 10
th time this season.
Sunday's victory improves Vassar to 9-3 overall on the season, while the Spartans slip to 11-5 overall.
Doubles
- Playing Division I/II scoring, the Brewers dropped the doubles point on Sunday with St. Thomas Aquinas winning two of the three contests.
- The top pair of McCusker and Macey Dowd (Orinda, CA) dropped a hard fought decision in a tie breaker, 6-7 (3-7).
- Krishnan and Duley improved to 10-2 on the season and won for the seventh straight contest on Sunday, outlasting their opponents from the Spartans at the third position by a score of 7-6 (7-5).
Singles
- Vassar responded in the singles competition with victories in four of the six matches.
- McCusker pushed her winning streak to 11 matches and improved to 11-1 on the season following a 6-1, 6-2 first flight victory.
- Krishnan clinched the win for the Brewers with a victory at the fourth position. Krishnan remained unbeaten at the fourth flight and improved to 10-2 on the season after outlasting St. Thomas Aquinas' Elita Silins 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
- Dowd collected her ninth win of the campaign on Sunday after easing to a 6-0, 6-2 second singles win.
- Duley improved to 7-4 on the season after battling to a 6-3, 6-4 win for the Brewers at the sixth slot.
