Baseball Closes Regular Season With 7-2 Triumph Over Bard

Vassar will head to Ithaca on Saturday for the Liberty League Crossover Divisional Series

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team closed the regular season at home on Sunday afternoon as the Brewers defeated Bard 7-2 at Prentiss Field. Vassar improves to 12-19 overall and 7-7 in Liberty League play while the Raptors finish the season at 6-26 on the season and 1-15 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bard got on the board first in the top of the third as Jimmy Famularo singled up the middle with two outs to score Mike Hannan.
  • The Raptors added a run in the fourth as Spencer Azzara drew a leadoff walk and was plated on a RBI triple from Xavier Webb.
  • Vassar took its first lead in the bottom half of the fourth as senior Reid Lapekas led off with a ground-rule double to center followed by senior Jack Silvera drawing a walk. Junior Daniel Laderman knocked both runners with a double to the right center gap to even the score at two. Junior Michael Lee legged out an infield single followed by a hit by pitch of senior Nick Greenhawt and junior Finn Kaplan-Moore's RBI groundout pushed Laderman across to go ahead 3-2.
  • Junior Birch Herring-Jackson led off with an infield single in the fifth and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Jensen Bergman. Lapekas and Silvera laced back-to-back doubles to score Herring-Jackson and Bergman to go ahead 5-2.
  • The Brewers added on to its lead in the sixth as M. Lee led off with a triple to right center and was scored on a RBI single from Greenhawt followed by a safety squeeze by Bergman to score Greenhawt to make it 7-2.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • M. Lee finished 3-for-4 with a run scored while Herring-Jackson added three hits and and a run scored.
  • Lapekas tallied two hits, two runs scored and a RBI along with Laderman adding a hit and two RBI.
  • Silvera, Greenhawt and Kaplan-Moore each added a hit and a RBI.
  • Sophomore Addison Lee earned the win as he tossed five innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, one walk and struck out five.
  • First year Rohan Mishra and junior Luke Barrientos combined for four scoreless innings of relief as they combined for five strikeouts.
FOR THE RAPTORS
  • Famularo and Mike Lynch each recorded two hits while Famularo knocked in a run.
  • Webb added a triple and a RBI along with a hit from Hannan and Kam Naficy.
  • Bryant Elliott took the loss on the mound as he went five-plus innings, allowing 11 hits, seven runs, one walk and struck out five.
  • Nikhil Newman tossed three scoreless innings in relief as he allowed one hit and struck out two.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar will travel to Ithaca for the Liberty League Crossover Divisional Series beginning on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader.
