Women’s Tennis Cruises Past RIT, Runs Winning Streak To Nine Matches

Krishnan wins 12th singles match of the season

Rochester, NY – The #32 Vassar College Women's Tennis team swept a Liberty League weekend on Sunday following an 8-1 win at RIT. The victory pushed the Brewers' winning streak to nine matches and Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) earned her 12th singles victory of the season.
 
Vassar improves to 11-3 overall and an unblemished 4-0 against conference rivals with Sunday's win, while RIT slips to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.
 
Doubles
  • The Brewers opened up a 3-0 lead after doubles play on Sunday.
  • The Brewers' top pair of Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) and Macey Dowd (Orinda, CA) got back into the win column and improved to 8-6 on the season with an 8-6 top flight victory.
  • Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) and Maddie Kirby (Davidson, CA) moved to 11-3 in doubles play on Sunday following an 8-4 second position win.
  • At third doubles, the pair of Krishnan and Elyse Duley (Charlotte, NC) won their ninth straight decision and moved to 12-2 on the season after blanking their opponents from RIT, 8-0.
 
Singles
  • The Brewers put the match away against the Tigers with wins in five of the six singles matches.
  • Dowd won her third straight singles decision and moved to 11-3 on the season with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory at the second slot.
  • Krishnan moved up to the third position for the first time this season and rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Sunday's victory improves Krishnan's singles record to 12-2 and ties her for the team lead in singles wins.
  • Kirby was back in action at the fourth position and scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory that pushed her singles record to 9-5.
  • Duley moved up to the fifth position for the first time in 2024 on Sunday and eased to a 6-2, 6-3 win that moved her record to 9-4 on the season.
  • First Year Esme Nix (Altadena, CA) earned her first career victory on Sunday following a 6-0, 6-1 win at the sixth position.
What's Next
  • Vassar returns to action on April 19 when it takes on league rival Bard and New Paltz.
  • RIT travels to Allegheny on April 20.
