Brewers Earn Fourth Straight Victory

Vassar opens Liberty League play with win

Geneva, NY – The #33 Vassar College Women's Tennis team picked up its fourth straight win on Saturday when it swept William Smith 9-0 in both team's Liberty League opener. Saturday's victory marked the 18th straight win for the Brewers over the Herons.
 
Vassar improved its overall record to 6-3 on the season and moved to 1-0 in conference play, while William Smith falls to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in league competition.
 
Doubles
  • The Brewers opened a commanding 3-0 lead after taking each of the three doubles competitions.
  • The middle pair of Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) and Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC) improved to 7-2 on the season after blanking their opponents from William Smith, 8-0.
  • At third doubles, Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) and Elyse Duley (Charlotte, NC) also improved to 7-2 on the season after cruising to an 8-3 triumph.
  • At the top doubles flight, Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) and Macey Dowd (Orinda, CA) battled past the Herons' top pair by a score of 8-5.
 
Singles
  • Krishnan and Kirby helped clinch the victory with wins at the fourth and fifth singles positions.
  • Krishnan moved up to the fourth slot for the first time this season and produced an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory.
  • Kirby cliched the win for the Brewers at the fifth position after cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph on Saturday.
  • McCusker won her eighth straight singles match on Saturday at the top position after scoring a 6-3, 6-2 win.
  • Dowd improved to 7-2 on the season following an impressive 6-2, 6-2 win at the second position on Saturday.
  • Li equaled the team-high with eight singles victories on Saturday with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the third slot for the Brewers.
  • Duley evened her singles record at 4-4 on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the sixth position.
