GENEVA, NY - The Vassar College Men's Basketball team traveled north for its final weekend of the regular season on Friday as the Brewers fell to Hobart, 76-63, in a road conference matchup. Vassar falls to 9-15 overall and 7-10 in conference play while the Statesmen improve to 19-5 on the season and 12-5 in Liberty League action.
FIRST HALF
- The Statesmen took an early 7-2 advantage as Ryan Lucey converted a three-point play while Pat Healy and Carter Meshanic each added a bucket.
- Following a triple from senior Case Parsons at the 16:01 mark, Hobart went on an 18-2 run over the next seven minutes to push ahead 25-7.
- Sophomore Nathan Denham knocked down a jumper to stop the run before Hobart increased its lead to 30-11 on a C. Meshanic lay-in.
- Junior Luke Adams connected on a triple to cut the lead to 16 with 1:21 remaining and his driving layup before the end of the half put Vassar within 38-22.
- Vassar finished the opening 20 minutes shooting 33.3-percent from the field while going 2-for-8 from three-point range.
- Hobart shot an even 50-percent overall, including 3-for-9 from three, in the first half.
SECOND HALF
- First year Shea Fitzgerald's three-point play at the 18:01 mark cut the lead to 43-30 before the Statesmen expanded the lead back to 18 on a three-pointer from Healy.
- Vassar answered with an 11-2 run over the next three minutes as Fitzgerald poured in six points along with a three-point play from Denham and a bucket from first year Avery Lee.
- Lee's jumper at the 10:47 mark put the Brewers within 52-45 before Hobart expanded its lead to 57-45 on free throws from Isaiah Washington.
- Back-to-back buckets from Denham cut the lead down to 10 with 7:34 to go before Hobart scored the next five points to make it 66-51 after two free throws from Aidan Rodgers.
- Sophomore JP Miranda's three-pointer trimmed the advantage down to 13 with 3:30 remaining until the Statesmen built the lead back to 18 with 1:52 to go.
- Vassar closed the second half shooting 47.1-percent overall and 5-for-13 from three-point range.
- Hobart shot 40-percent from the field in the second half including 3-for-9 from three-point territory.
FOR THE BREWERS
- Fitzgerald tallied a team-high 20 points on 7-for-12 from the field, including 3-for-6 from three.
- Denham added 11 points, six rebounds, three blocks, two steals and two assists off the bench while Adams added nine points and two assists.
- Miranda and Lee each chipped in seven points along with first year Kreekor Karageuzian recorded four assists, three steals and three boards.
FOR THE STATESMEN
- Healey poured in a game-high 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting along with six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
- C. Meshanic recorded 13 points while Washington tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
- Moesch finished with nine points and three rebounds and Lucey chipped in seven points and eight boards.
GAME STATS
- Vassar finished the contest shooting 41-percent from the field while going 7-for-21 from three and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.
- Hobart shot 45.2-percent overall in the game while shooting 6-for-18 from three-point range and 14-for-20 from the free throw stripe.
- Hobart held a 23-15 edge in points off turnovers, 36-30 in points in the paint and 17-11 in second chance points.
