Julia Harvey (Delmar, NY) poured in a career-high 29 points and sophomore
Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL) chipped in a career best 15 points as the Vassar College Women's Basketball team got back into the win column with an impressive 99-54 road win at William Smith Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's victory, the first road win of the season for the Brewers, came on the strength of 17 made three-point field goals, the second highest single game total in program history. Vassar improves to 4-2 overall on the year and evens its Liberty League record at 1-1.
First Half
- After William Smith scored the first four points of the game, Vassar got a jumper from Tova Gelb (Sharon, MA) and a three-pointer from Maddie Ahearn (Bethlehem, PA) to grab its first lead of the game at 5-4.
- The Herons regained a brief 6-5 edge before the Brewers ripped off the next nine points to surge in front 17-6. Harvey sparked the run with a pair of triples.
- Vassar would move in front by 12 twice in the final 1:14 of the opening period, including on a Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) bucket in the closing seconds to send the Brewers into the second frame leading 22-10.
- Vassar knocked down three triples in the opening quarter and shot 38.1-percent from the floor over the opening 10 minutes.
- The Brewers broke the game open in the second frame, shooting an unconscious 12-for-15 from the floor, including a 7-for-8 clip from three-point range.
- Vassar started the quarter on a 16-6 run to pull in front 38-16 at the 6:13 mark of the quarter.
- The Brewers went 6-for-6 from the floor over the stretch of 3:24 with Harvey scoring nine points, including a pair of triples.
- Regan capped the scoring in the first half with a bucket in the final 10 seconds to make the score 54-23 at the break.
- Vassar shot an efficient 55.6-percent overall over the opening 20 minutes and went 10-for-18 from three-point range.
- Harvey went 7-for-10 from the field and 5-for-7 from behind the arc in the first half, leading all scorers at halftime with 21 points.
Second Half
- Vassar did not let William Smith closer than 29 points in the second half and finished the third period shooting an even 50-percent from the floor with four more three-pointers.
- The advantage ballooned to 82-36 on a Sophia Ippolito (Cumberland Center, ME) three-pointer with 40 seconds left in the quarter.
- The fourth period saw the Brewers knock down three more triples and shoot 43.8-percent from the field.
- The Brewers' advantage grew to a game-high 51 points following back-to-back Regan triples that pushed the score to 99-48 with 4:02 left to play.
- Vassar shot 47.1-percent from the floor overall after halftime, including a 58.3-percent clip from three-point range.
For The Brewers
- Harvey's career day saw her go 9-for-16 from the floor overall and 6-for-9 from three-point range. Harvey closed out a big day with six rebounds and a pair of assists for the Brewers.
- Regan scored a career-high 15 points after going 5-for-6 from the floor with a trio of triples. Regan hauled in five rebounds and dished out four assists for the second straight contest.
- Gelb contributed 17 points to the winning effort, closing a double-double with 10 rebounds while adding three assists and a pair of steals.
- McDermed chipped in 13 points and five rebounds to go along with a team-high six assists and a pair of thefts.
- Ahearn canned three triples on the way to nine points to go along with three helpers.
- Ippolito and Caroline Siekman (Islesboro, ME) each scored six points with Siekman adding five caroms and two assists.
For The Herons
- Giana Lobozzo came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points.
- Amelia McCulley added 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.
- Ava Lobozzo led the team with six rebounds and three steals.
Game Statistics
- Vassar shot a season best 51.4-percent from the field overall and posted season-highs with 17 three-point field goals made and a 56.7-percent conversion rate from bonus distance.
- The 17 three-point field goals marks the second highest total on record in program history and the percentage ranks as the fifth highest single game mark.
- Vassar forced 18 turnovers leading to a 22-16 edge in points off of miscues.
- The Brewers hauled in 20 offensive rebounds and outscored the Herons 20-11 in second chance scoring.
- Vassar held the edge in paint points 26-22.

- Vassar plays its third straight conference road game on Wednesday when it heads to Skidmore.
