Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Women's Rugby team is headed to Houston, TX this weekend with a National title in their sights. First up on Saturday is a semifinal against familiar opponents the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
The game will kickoff at 5:00 pm EST, 4:00 pm local time and is being streamed on The Rugby Network. It is not free as you will need to create an account and pay a fee. Fans can stream all championship matches with a TRN+ Virtual Ticket. It gives them access to all championship matches for $12.99.
The team is led by wing
Zoe Lynch and prop
Andie Authers and they are joined by seven others who all played in the corresponding game last year. Vassar jumped out to a 38-10 lead by halftime but USCGA came roaring back and the match finished 48-38 in Vassar's favor.
On the other side of the draw the defending Champions the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire take on the University of Cincinnati.
Last December, Vassar fell to UW Eau Claire in the final 29-32, having taken the lead with seven minutes left in the game. The Brewers will want to get back to the final and make amends whether they face UWEC or Cincinnati.
The winners of the semifinal games will play on Sunday in the Championship game, kickoff 2:00 pm local time. Again, The Rugby Network will provide coverage.
The weather forecast for the Houston area this weekend is calling for rain and the temperature in the low 60s. Not ideal conditions but leaving the snow behind in New York provides perspective!
The venue this weekend is also hosting the Women's Division I
Final and the Women's Division III Final 4 so there is plenty of Rugby on tap to view.
