Men's Basketball Overwhelms Mount Saint Mary 104-54

11 players record a field goal, five players record double digit points

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - 11 different players recorded a field goal for Vassar as five Brewers registered double digit points to lead the Vassar College Men's Basketball team to a 104-54 victory over Mount Saint Mary in the second matchup of the Hudson Valley Classic on Saturday afternoon at Bard College. Vassar improves to 3-2 overall on the season while the Knights fall to 1-4.

First Half
  • Mount Saint Mary opened up the contest with a 5-0 lead on five straight points from Ryan Graham before the Brewers rattled off a 16-0 run over the next five minutes to go ahead 16-5 with 13 minutes left in the opening half.
  • Vassar used eight points from sophomore Avery Lee along with four points from junior Nathan Denham and two points each from sophomore Shea Fitzgerald and junior Sacha Greenberg.
  • Following a three-pointer from Liam Lynch to slow the run, Vassar scored the next 10 points as a layup from junior JP Miranda put the Brewers ahead 26-8 with nine minutes left.
  • Two layups from senior Devyn Benson expanded the advantage to 30-11 at the 7:34 mark and a triple from Lee extended the lead to 36-15 with five and a half minutes left in the half.
  • A jumper from Rob Geremino at the 4:35 mark cut the Vassar lead down to 36-19 until a lay-in from sophomore Kreekor Karageuzian pushed the advantage to 40-21 at the 3:09 mark.
  • Greenberg's triple and Karageuzian's jumper put the Brewers ahead by 20 with 1:34 to go before two triples from Justin Rivera trimmed the lead to 47-31 at the half.
  • Vassar closed the first half shooting a blistering 51.4-percent while connecting on five triples and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
  • The Mount was limited to 28.1-percent from the field in the first half and went 4-for-12 from three and 9-for-11 from the free throw stripe.
Second Half
  • Vassar's lead grew back to 22 points at 55-33 on a triple from Fitzgerald with 17:52 remaining in regulation.
  • Following a jumper from Josiah Jones to cut the lead to 20, Vassar went on a 12-2 run behind six points from Lee and three each from Denham and senior Alex Walters to expand the lead to 67-37 at the 15:10 mark.
  • Two free throws from Greenberg and a lay-in from first year Will Gregory expanded the advantage to 76-42 with 10:50 to go in the second half.
  • Gregory's first career three-pointer pushed the Vassar advantage to 79-44 with 9:36 remaining before an old fashioned three-point play from sophomore Sebastian Medina ballooned the lead to 82-45 with eight and a half minutes left.
  • Sophomore Collin France connected on his first career triple to expand the lead to 89-47 with seven minutes remaining and drilled a second three-pointer a minute later to make it 92-53.
  • Four free throws from Miranda and a lay-in from Walters put the Brewers ahead by the final margin of 104-54.
  • The Brewers once again shot 51.4-percent overall in the second half while going 10-for-20 from three-point territory and 11-for-12 from the free throw line.
  • Mount Saint Mary cooled to 25.7-percent shooting, including 2-for-14 from three and 3-for-7 from the free throw line.
For The Brewers
  • Lee led the team with 20 points on 7-for-9 overall (6-for-8 from three) and added six rebounds along with Greenberg tallying a career-high 17 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
  • Fitzgerald recorded 12 points, four assists and four rebounds while Denham added 11 points, three board and three assists.
  • Gregory posted 10 points off the bench along with France adding eight points and Karageuzian registering six points and four rebounds.
  • Medina supplied five points, six boards and a career-high nine assists while Benson tallied four points and seven rebounds.
For The Knights
  • Geremino recorded a team-high nine points off the bench while Rivera added eight points and two assists.
  • R. Graham registered seven points and two steals along with Cyran finishing with six points, two steals, two assists and two boards.
  • Jones grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and Lynch recorded six points and two rebounds.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the contest shooting 51.4-percent from the field and 15-for-37 from three point range along with going 17-for-18 from the free throw line.
  • The Mount shot 26.9-percent overall, including 6-for-26 from three, and went 12-for-18 from the free throw stripe.
  • The Brewers held a 16-9 edge in second chance points along with dominating points in the paint 42-22 and fast break points at 25-5.

  • Vassar will be off until opening up conference play against Ithaca on Friday, December 6th at 7:30 p.m.
  • MSMC heads to Sage on Tuesday evening.
