Women's Soccer Falls in NCAA Second Round to #2 Christopher Newport

Brewers reach the Second Round for the first time in program history

Newport News, VA - The Vassar College Women's Soccer team made its first appearance in the Second Round in program history as the Brewers fell 4-0 to #2 Christopher Newport in the 2024 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. First year Laura Shea tied her career-high in saves with seven as Vassar closes the season at 12-4-5 overall.

How It Happened
  • The Captains registered the first shot on net from Hanna Heaton two minutes into the contest as Shea turned away the opportunity.
  • First year Alice Crowley fired a shot on goal two minutes later where Captains goalkeeper Amy Sidaway made the stop.
  • Christopher Newport had a flurry of chances with 22 minutes left in the half as the Brewers defense turned away multiple shots before the Captains got on the board with a header from Reanna Slater off a cross from Heaton.
  • Heaton fired a shot off the left post three minutes later before Shea recorded another save on a shot from Heaton to keep the score at 1-0.
  • Vassar pressed forward early in the second half as Crowley's shot soared just above the crossbar eight minutes into the second period before a second Crowley shot was saved by Sidaway.
  • CNU doubled its lead in the 58th minute as Alex Devers headed a cross from Heaton to the right corner of the net.
  • The Captains tallied their third goal of the contest in the 66th minute as Heaton buried a goal into the bottom left side of the net.
  • Christopher Newport closed the victory with a goal from Corinne Kulik on an assist from Ellie Cox.
For The Brewers
  • Crowley finished with four shots, including two on goal, along with sophomore Maddie Wolf and junior Rebecca Rodriquez each recording a shot.
  • Shea made seven shots in goal in 67:10 of action while first year Olivia Sandrew played the final 22:50 in net.
For The Captains
  • Heaton scored her 13th goal and 16th and 17th assists of the season to increase her point total to 44 on the season.
  • Slater recorded her second goal of the campaign along with Devers scoring her fifth goal of the year and Kulik tallied her ninth goal of the contest.
  • Cox tallied her secod assist of the season while Sideway posted her 10th shutout in goal and made two saves.
Game Statistics
  • CNU outshot the Brewers 23-6 overall and 12-2 on goal.
  • The Captains registered all five corner kicks taken in the contest.
