Grace Wiley posted her first shutout of the season as Vassar upset #20 New Paltz 1-0 in the season finale at Weinberg Field on Friday evening. Vassar's record improves to 4-14 on the season while the Hawks drop to 13-5 overall.
How It Happened
- Vassar had three strong chances early as sophomore Karina Hoffman had two shots saved along with junior Margo Gramiak having a shot turned away by New Paltz goalkeeper Gail Comiskey.
- Rachel Tama recorded the lone shot on goal in the first quarter for New Paltz which was turned away by Wiley.
- The Brewers tallied three more shots on goal in the second period as senior Tori Baker had two strong shots saved by Comiskey followed by a shot from first year Jessica Pawloski.
- New Paltz dominated the third period as the Hawks outshot Vassar 11-0 but Vassar's defense held the Hawks off the board as Wiley made two saves along with a defensive save from sophomore Gianna Hoover.
- Vassar earned a penalty stroke following a shot that was saved from Hoffman with six and a half minutes left in regulation.
- Beseth stepped up and shot the ball to the bottom right half of the goal and past the stretching goalie to give Vassar a 1-0 lead.
- The Hawks had one chance in the final six minutes but the Tama shot went wide as the Brewers closed the season with a 1-0 victory.

- Beseth scored her sixth goal of the season to finish with the team lead in goals and points with 13.
- Hoover registered her conference-leading eighth defensive save of the season.
