Vassar Races Past Brandeis In Home Opener

Brewers win 13 events on Saturday

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Swimming and Diving team put together a strong performance on Saturday in a 171-100 victory over Brandeis in its first home meet of the season. The Brewers won 13 events in the meet, including a personal best time from Lilly Masters (Bloomfield Village, MI) in the 500-yard freestyle.

Saturday's win opens Vassar's season at 2-0.

For The Brewers

Maleigha Vietti (Overland Park, KS) posted a season best time of 11:19.87 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, the first individual event of the meet. Vietti also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.12) on Saturday.
Masters had a big day, swimming a personal best time of 5:36.67 in winning the 500-yard freestyle. Masters added a strong third-place swim in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.85).
Sophomore Anna Little (Irwin, PA) posted victories for the Brewers in both the 100-yard breaststroke in a season best time (1:11.49) and 200-yard individual medley (2:20.01).
Vivien Li (Pittsburgh, PA) also scored a pair of victories on Saturday for Vassar, taking the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke in a season best time (2:13.36) while also taking the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.74). Li added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.56).
Abigail McLaughlin (Denver, CO) posted a season best time of 54.85 seconds in winning the 100-yard freestyle and added a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (25.09) and a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.99).
Caroline Griem (Brooklyn, NY) had a strong day off the diving boards on Saturday, scoring a personal best score of 142.70 in the 1-meter event to go along with a mark of 142.70 in her debut off the 3-meter board.
Lara Chebotarev (East Longmeadow, MA) scored a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.15) and took third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:41.87).
Eva D'Addario (Baltimore, MD) took second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.06).
Senior Maya Luongo (Katonah, NY) scored a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (25.94) and a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (57.24).
First Year Tia Spivey (Gate City, VA) swam to a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.15).
The relay teams also had a big day for the Brewers, with the 200-yard medley squad of Li, Chebotarev, Little and Luongo opening the meet with a victory by nearly five seconds with a time of 1:55.33.
The 400-yard freestyle team of Masters, Vietti, Luongo and McLaughlin dominated the final event of the day, winning by better than 10 seconds in a time of 3:45.08.
