Women’s Soccer Battles Clarkson To Draw

Pannarelli tallies for the Brewers

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team closed out its back-to-back Liberty League weekend Saturday afternoon with a hard fought 1-1 draw with Clarkson. Sophomore Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) tallied Vassar's lone goal in the contest.
 
Saturday's draw moves Vassar to 8-2-4 overall on the season and 3-1-2 against conference opponents, with Clarkson standing at 4-6-3 overall and 1-3-2 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • The two teams played a scoreless first half with Vassar holding a slim 8-7 advantage in shots.
  • Clarkson took the only corner kick of the opening period.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) was forced to make three first half saves to keep the Golden Knights off the board at the break.
  • Clarkson keeper, Molly DiCaprio, turned aside a pair of Vassar shots to keep the game scoreless at the half.
  • Vassar broke through with the first goal of the game 2:55 into the second frame.
  • First Year Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) played a ball down the left wing to Panarelli who deposited her fourth goal of the season at 47:55.
  • Vassar maintained the one-goal lead until the 70th minute when Clarkson found the equalizer.
  • Following a corner kick, Clarkson's Chloe Hodge corralled a loose ball and buried a shot from outside the box at 69:52 to even the score at 1-1.

  • Hodge scored her third goal of the season, moving into the top spot on the team with 10 points.
  • A trio of Golden Knights finished with three shots, including Maddie Lopol who posted two shots on target.
  • DiCaprio totaled four saves on the day for Clarkson.
