Men's Basketball Topped In Road Action at St. Lawrence

Brewers will return home for the first time in seven games on Friday night

CANTON, NY - The Vassar College Men's Basketball team completed its seven game road trip on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers dropped a 54-37 contest to Liberty League leader St. Lawrence at Ronald T. Burkman Gymnasium. The Brewers drop to 6-13 overall and 4-8 in conference play while the Saints improve to 14-4 on the season and 10-2 in Liberty League action.

FIRST HALF
  • St. Lawrence scored the first four points of the game on buckets from Aidan and Gavin Macaulay before first year Shea Fitzgerald's layup knotted the game at four at the 15 minute mark.
  • After a jumper from Jack Wirtanen put the Saints ahead 11-8, the Brewers tallied five straight to take a 13-11 lead on a triple from senior Logan Scott at the 8:43 mark.
  • The Saints regained the lead at the 7:15 mark on a bucket from Adam Dudzinski before Vassar responded to take a one-point lead on a jumper from first year Kreekor Karageuzian.
  • St. Lawrence closed the opening 20 minutes on a 14-2 run, led by eight points from Dudzinski, to take a 30-19 lead at the halftime break.
  • Vassar was held to 28.6-percent shooting, just 1-for-10 from three-point range, while going 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
  • The Saints finished the half shooting 37.9-percent overall, including 1-for-8 from three, and converted 7-for-10 from the free throw stripe.
SECOND HALF
  • St. Lawrence opened the second half with an 11-0 run, led by six points from Dudzinski and five from A. Macaulay to extend its lead to 41-19.
  • Sophomore Nathan Denham's jumper with 12:15 remaining cut the lead down to 16 before a layup from Troy McPherson pushed the advantage to 21.
  • Vassar battled back to trim the lead down to 15 with 8:51 left on a three-pointer from junior Luke Adams.
  • Back-to-back buckets from sophomore JP Miranda put Vassar within 14 with 3:09 remaining but the Brewers were held scoreless in the final three minutes.
  • Vassar was limited to 25.9-percent from the field, including 2-for-7 from three, and were 2-for-5 from the free throw line.
  • St. Lawrence shot 30-percent overall while knocking down 6-for-16 from three-point range.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Miranda tallied 10 points to lead Vassar while Karageuzian finished with six points, two assists and two steals.
  • Adams recorded three points, three assists and two rebounds.
FOR THE SAINTS
  • Dudzinski finished with a game-high 16 points along with six boards and two steals.
  • G. Macaulay added 11 points and two steals while A. Macaulay recorded 10 points, four boards, five steals and two assists.
  • Andrew Cowan hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds and Trey Syroka handed out a game-high four assists.
GAME STATS
  • Vassar finished the game shooting 27.3-percent, including 3-for-17 from three, and were 4-for-7 from the free throw line.
  • St. Lawrence shot 33.9-percent overall, connecting on 7-for-24 from three-point distance and shot 7-for-10 from the free throw stripe.
  • The Saints held a 26-13 edge in points off turnovers, 24-20 advantage in points in the paint and 10-8 in second chance points.
