ITHACA, NY - The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought 13-11 loss on the road on Saturday afternoon against #RV Ithaca in Liberty League action. The Brewers drop to 7-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play while the Bombers move to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in Liberty League action.
Junior
Troy Santise and senior
Riley Olds each scored for Vassar to open the first quarter as the Brewers took a 2-0 lead at the 9:06 mark. Ithaca scored the final three goals of the period as Kyle Savery, Jake Erickson and Sekou Ibrahima put the Bombers ahead 3-2 after the opening quarter.
A majority of the scoring came in the second quarter as Kyle Proctor scored first for Ithaca just 41 seconds in. Following Santise's second goal of the game, Andrew Tinnesz and Charlie Niebuhr tallied back to back goals to go ahead 6-3 with 10:33 to go. Sophomore
Shane O'Hara slowed the Bombers scoring run with a tally at the 8:23 mark. Ithaca responded with three straight goals from Proctor, John Sramac and Drew Turner to push its lead to 9-4. Freshman
Anderson Eads and junior
Solomon Hess tallied goals to trim the lead to 9-6 before Niebuhr and Olds traded goals before the half to make it 10-7.
Rookie
Baker Morton tallied the only goal of the third period for the Brewers while Ibrahima, Niebuhr and Erickson tallied goals for the Bombers to hold a 13-8 lead after three quarters. Vassar scored the only three goals of the fourth quarter as Morton, Santise and junior
Dylan McFarland each scored for the Brewers.
Santise finished with three goals and an assist while Olds tallied three points and three ground balls. Morton recorded two goals while senior
James Nicholas finished with an assist and three ground balls. Hess tallied a goal, two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior
Jack Bagin took the loss in goal as he made 13 saves and picked up two ground balls.
Niebuhr had three goals for the Bombers while Proctor tallied two goals and two assists. Erickson and Ibrahima scored twice each for Ithaca. Chris Sohl picked up eight ground balls while Chase Gulick and Andrew Benjamin each registered four ground balls. Wesley Hudkins and Billy Winters each had two caused turnovers. Ryan LaForty earned the win in net as he made 16 saves for Ithaca.
Vassar will return home for a matchup with St. Lawrence on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
