POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar College Women's Tennis team suffered a tight 5-4 loss on Saturday afternoon against St. Lawrence in a Liberty League matchup. Vassar falls to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play while the Saints improve to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in Liberty League action.
Sophomore
Macey Dowd and freshman
Iris Li earned a 8-5 win over Catherine Gamble and Molly Jespersen at first doubles followed by Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Elena Styliades tallying a 8-2 win at three over freshmen
Ananya Krishnan and
Maya Thompson. Caitlyn Avery and Emily Harris recorded a 8-7 (8-7) victory against senior
Tatum Blalock and sophomore
Elyse Duley at second doubles.
Dowd earned a win at second singles on retirement followed by Duley winning 6-2, 6-0 over Meredith Macey at sixth singles. Krishnan recorded a 7-5, 6-0 triumph over Emily Harris while Aksdal-Jensen was a 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) winner against junior
Sofie Shen at four. Gamble took a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory over Blalock at first singles before Avery earn the match-clinching victory with a 7-6, 2-6, 7-5 win against Li at three.
Vassar will travel to Hamilton on Friday afternoon before playing conference matches against William Smith and Ithaca over the weekend.
