GETTYSBURG, PA - Powered by 22 runs and 26 hits in today's doubleheader, the Vassar College Baseball team won its fourth and fifth straight games while completing the three-game series sweep over Gettysburg on Sunday. The Brewers earned a 10-5 victory in game one and then fought off the Bullets comeback late to earn a 12-11 victory in the nightcap. Vassar improves to 9-5 overall while Gettysburg falls to 9-7 on the season.

Vassar tallied two runs in the first as junior

Andrew Kanellis and freshman
Birch Herring-Jackson on a double to the right center gap to take an early 2-0 lead. Preston Toothman's triple combined with a VC error cut the Brewers lead to one in the second inning.
The Brewers big inning came in the third as they scored seven runs in the inning as senior

Nick Greenhawt each drove in a run on single. Sophomore
Jaden Millstein's RBI hit by pitch scored another run along with a sacrifice fly from senior
Alex Warren to push the lead to 7-1. Kanellis finished off the inning with a two RBI double to score Herring-Jackson and Greenhawt to give Vassar a 9-1 lead.
The Bullets got four runs back in the bottom half of the inning as Liam Gregory's bases clearing triple got the lead down to 9-4 and then he later scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to four. Vassar tacked on an insurance run on a double steal where an out was recorded but Warren scampered home to push the lead back to 10-5.
Freshman
Addison Lee earned the win for the Brewers as he went four innings, allowing nine hits, five runs, three walks and struck out nine. Senior
Frankie Murphy tossed two scoreless innings in relief and struck out three along with senior
Bryce Grathwohl throwing a scoreless inning and striking out two.
Nate Masteralexis took the loss for the Bullets as he lasted 2.2 innings while giving up eight hits, nine runs (four earned) and struck out three. Aidan Brusey, Mike Giammarino and Mabret Levant combined for 4.1 innings of relief and gave up just one run and combined for five strikeouts.
Kanellis, Greenhawt and Lapekas each recorded two hits for the Brewers while Kanellis and Lapekas drove in two runs each. Herring-Jackson had two runs scored while seven Brewers tallied a hit in the contest. Jack Pistner, Matthew Peipher and Toothman had two hits apiece for Gettysburg while Gregory drove in three runs.

Millstein led off the first inning with a double and then scored on a wild pitch for an early 1-0 lead. Kanellis doubled home Herring-Jackson and senior
Christian Baaki in the second followed by Talwalkar's three-run homer to give Vassar a 6-0 lead.
The Bullets tallied a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI groundout from Levant and added a second run in the third on another RBI groundout from Peipher to make it 6-2 after three.
Vassar extended its lead to 8-2 as Talwalkar drew a leadoff walk and freshman
Jensen Bergman blasted his first collegiate home run to right field. Gettysburg trimmed the lead down to two in the fifth as an RBI infield single from Tristan Neels, a RBI double from Mark Siebert and a two-run single from Levant to make it 8-6 after five complete.
Gettysburg took its first lead in the seventh as Kyle Miller scored on a VC throwing error followed by Matt Nichols scoring on a wild pitch to tie it at eight. Toothman's RBI double to the right center gap scored Neels and gave the Bullets a 9-8 lead.
The Brewers regained the lead on a two-run homer from Kanellis in the top of the eighth before the Bullets tied it at 10 on a run that scored off a fielder's choice. Millstein lifted a sacrifice fly to score Warren in the ninth followed by sophomore
Ricardo Reyna's RBI single that gave the Brewers a 12-10 edge heading to the bottom of the ninth. JR McCloskey's sacrifice fly brought Gettysburg within one and put the tying run on third with two outs. Junior reliever
Joe Sabo induced a game-ending groundout to seal the three-game series sweep for Vassar.
Sophomore
Luke Barrientos started for the Brewers as he went four innings, allowing two hits, four runs, six walks and struck out five. Sabo earned the victory out of the bullpen as he went two innings, allowing two hits, one run and struck out two.
Patrick Clementi took the loss for Gettysburg as he tossed one inning and gave up five hits, two runs, and struck out one. Alexander Wilkie-Viscio threw four innings and allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out three.
Kanellis finished 3-for-5, including a homer, with four RBI along with Talwalkar adding three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs. Bergman tallied two RBI, including a homer, while Reyna, junior
Ty Murray and Herring-Jackson added two hits each.
Pistner finished with three hits and two runs scored for the Bullets while Levant had two hits and drove in three runs. Neels added two RBI and three runs scored along with Seibert who tallied two hits and two runs scored.
Vassar will open up Liberty League play next weekend as the Brewers will take on Bard in a doubleheader on the road on Saturday. First pitch with the Raptors is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
