Women's Volleyball Heads to #22 Ithaca for Liberty League Championship Semifinals

Brewers defeated fifth-seeded Skidmore 3-1 in Tuesday night's First Round matchup

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The fourth-seeded Vassar College Women's Volleyball team will head to top-seeded #22 Ithaca on Friday afternoon as the Brewers will matchup up with the Bombers in the 2023 Liberty League Championship semifinal at 4:00 p.m. on the campus of Ithaca College.The semifinal matchup will have live video and stats for those who are unable to attend.

TUESDAY'S TRIUMPH
  • Vassar clinched its spot in the Liberty League semifinals for the first time since 2018 following a 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 27-25 victory over fifth-seeded Skidmore on Tuesday.
  • Kaplan registered 15 kills, six digs, two blocks and an ace while McAusland added 15 kills, three aces, three blocks and seven digs.
  • Delahunty buried nine winners and five blocks along with Hale recording four kills and six blocks.
  • Voss handed out 26 assists along with three aces, two blocks and seven digs.
  • Petro lifted a match-high 19 digs and junior Molly Ardren recorded 12 assists.
A LOOK AT VASSAR
  • The Brewers are currently in the midst of a six-match winning streak as Vassar holds a record of 17-9 overall and 6-2 in Liberty League matchups.
  • First year duo Holland Kaplan and Maura McAusland lead the way for Vassar as Kaplan leads the team in kills with 296 and digs with 198. McAusland is second on the team in kills with 261 while leading the squad in aces with 44.
  • Junior Julia Hale holds the team lead in blocks with 67 on the season while sophomore Molly Delahunty has tallied 45 blocks and junior Frannie Anthony-Brumfield is third in blocks with 40.
  • Sophomore Melia Voss is the leading setter for the Brewers as she has handed out 593 assists while also being third on the team in aces with 33 and fourth in blocks with 30.
  • First year T Petro sits second on the squad in aces with 35 and has lifted 151 digs. Sophomore Ellie Kogan is second on the team in digs with 190.
SCOUTING ITHACA
  • Ithaca enters the postseason ranked #22 nationally and has won eight straight matches while posting a 23-4 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in conference matchups.
  • Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu leads the team in kills with 298 and is third in aces with 28. Jamie Koopman has tallied 225 winners while leading the team in blocks with 60.
  • Faith Sabatier is the third player with 200 or more kills with 213 total and Ella Graper has tallied 118 kills and is second in blocks with 58.
  • Ellie Benedict leads the squad in aces with 44 and is second in digs with 262. Peyton Miller ranks second in aces with 33 and is third in digs with 188.
  • Julia Costa has lifted a team-best 368 digs, which ranks third in the Liberty League.
PREVIOUS MATCHUP
  • Ithaca earned a three-set sweep of Vassar on October 21 as the Bombers recorded a 9-25, 15-25, 16-25 victory in Poughkeepsie.
  • Kaplan tallied five kills and four digs along with McAusland adding five winners. Hale recorded two kills and two blocks while junior Morgan Miller registered five digs.
  • Voss handed out nine assists and Petro lifted a team-high six digs.
  • For Ithaca, Koopman recorded a match-high 14 kills while Sabatier, Graper and Naomi Clauhs each buried eight winners. Gonzalez-Abreu added seven kills and two aces and Benedict and Costa each landed two aces.
  • Wesley Slavin handed out a match-high 35 assists and lifted a match-high 11 digs.

LIBERTY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
  • This is the first time that Vassar will be playing in the Liberty League semifinals since 2018.
  • Vassar won seven straight Liberty League Championships from 2000-2006.
  • The Bombers are the defending conference champions after defeating Clarkson in five sets last season.
  • Ithaca would advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2022 before falling to Christopher Newport.
