Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Swimming and Diving team returned to Kresge Pool for the first time since the season opener on Saturday afternoon and swam well in a 186-93 loss to visiting RPI.
Lucas Jauregui (Barrington, RI) won a pair of events in the pool, while
Jacob Cerone (New Windsor, NY) posted victories in each of the two diving events.
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 1-4 through five dual meets in 2023-24.
For The Brewers
- Jauregui continued a strong rookie season with wins for the Brewers in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly. Jauregui took the backstroke event in 55.17 second before swimming a season best time of 54.06 seconds in the butterfly race.
- Cerone continued a big start to the 2023-24 campaign on Saturday with victories in both the 3-meter and 1-meter events. Cerone posted a 3-meter score of 168.17 on Saturday before taking the 1-meter event with a score of 199.95.
- Ricky Kurosawa (Las Vagas, NV) scored a victory for the Brewers in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.97) and added a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.41).
- Hayden Ehrenfeld (Long Beach, CA) earned a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle (22.28) and scored third-place points for Vassar in the 100-yard freestyle (50.34).
- Sam Deluca (Mifflinburg, PA) turned in a third-place swim in the 100-yard backstroke (57.63).
- Rory Stumpf (Potomac, MD) turned in a pair of strong swims, taking fourth and posting a six-second improvement in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.28) to go along with a two-second improvement in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a fourth-place finish in 1:54.81.
- James Hatch (Los Altos, CA) posted a season best time in a fourth-place swim in the 100-yard backstroke (49.42).
- Alex Graber (Harrison, NY) scored a fourth-place finish for the Brewers in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:13.13).
- Jack Kahan (Lewiston, ME) finished second off the 1-meter board with a score of 102.52.
- Vassar opened the event with the 'A' 200-yard medley relay team of Jauregui, Kurosawa, Han Ryu (Chantilly, VA) and Ehrenfeld swimming to a runner-up finish in 1:38.89.
- The 'A' 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ryu, Lukas Johnson (Minneapolis, MN), Jauregui and Ehrenfeld also placed second on Saturday (3:19.26).
