Women’s Soccer Plays Visiting RIT To Scoreless Draw

Zimmer records eighth shutout

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team played visiting RIT to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon and by virtue of other results around the Liberty League has been eliminated from next week's Liberty League Championship. Prior to the contest, the Brewers honored the eight seniors on the 2023 roster: Teresa Zimmer (Long Valley, NJ), Ariana Pjetri (Yorktown Heights, NY), Justine Tapert (New York, NY), Claire Karlin (Arlington, VA), Cating Greene (Providence, RI), Julia Farnham (Amherst, MA), Olivia Lavelle (Scottsdale, AZ) and Jessica Young (The Woodlands, Texas) in a pregame ceremony.  
 
Saturday's draw ends the regular season for the Brewers with an 8-4-5 overall record and a 2-2-5 Liberty League mark while RIT moves to 7-4-5 overall and 5-0-4 in league play. The Tigers will be the second seed in next week's conference championship.
 
How It Happened
  • RIT finished the opening stanza with a slim 6-5 advantage in overall shots.
  • First Half corner kicks were even at 2-2.
  • Zimmer made a single save before the break.
  • RIT keeper, Emily Sanchez, turned aside three Vassar shots during the first half.
  • Noelle Namba (San Francisco, CA) had a good chance at the frame late in the first half, but Sanchez was up to the task.
  • In the second half, Vassar had a pair of attempts when Gigi Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) and Lavelle missed the frame just over 10 minutes into the second half.
  • Zimmer made back-to-back saves with just around 15 minutes left in the contest to keep the Tigers off the board.
  • Vassar went without a shot in the game following an attempt from Lavelle in the 57th minute.
  • RIT doubled Vassar's shot total after halftime, 6-3.
  • Vassar took two of the three second half corner kicks.
  • Zimmer finished the second frame with a trio of stops.
 
For The Brewers
  • Zimmer earned her eighth clean sheet of the season, finishing the day with four saves.
  • Zimmer now holds a 0.54 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.
  • Lavelle led the team with three shots putting one target.
  • Namba finished with a pair of attempts and one shot on goal.
  • Ashley Butler (Hopkinton, MA) added a shot on goal for the Brewers.
 
For The Tigers
  • Sanchez picked up the shutout with three saves on the afternoon for RIT.
  • Elena Onodera led all players with four shots in the game, putting two attempts on frame.
  • Anya Sander posted two shots and a shot on goal.
  • Olivia Harris finished with a shot on goal.
 
Match Statistics
  • RIT posted a slim 11-9 advantage in overall shots and a slimmer 4-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to Vassar by a 4-3 margin.
