Brewers Have Strong Showing At Montclair State

Two Brewers win pair of individual events apiece

Montclair, NJ – The Vassar College Women's Swimming team returned to the pool in strong fashion on Friday in a 164-132 non-conference loss at Montclair State. Addie Wiener (Maplewood, NJ) and First Year Vivien Li (Pittsburgh, PA) each won two events for the Brewers.

Vassar's suffers its first defeat of the season and stands at 2-1 through the first three competitions of the year.

For The Brewers

Wiener dominated the distance freestyle events on Friday, scoring victories for Vassar in the 1,000-yard race (11:06.63) and the 500-yard event (5:30.60).
Li continued a standout start to the season on Friday with wins for the Brewers in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events in times of 1:01.28 and 2:14.13. Li also added a second-place finish on the night in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.90).
The butterfly events proved to be strong for the Brewers on Friday with Alejandra Robins (El Cerrito, CA) coming home second in each event in times of 1:01.35 and 2:17.04.
First Year Anna Little (Irwin, PA) also put together a strong meet, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.55) and winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.49) with both swims completed in a season best time.
Senior Sarah Quintana (Chandler, AZ) turned in a strong meet with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.74) as well as a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.23).
Maya Luongo (Katonah, NY) swam to a runner-up finish for the Brewers in the 50-yard freestyle (25.79) and placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.99).
Jolie Walker (Chicago, IL) earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.26).
Maleigha Vietti (Overland Park, KS) scored a third-place finish for the Brewers in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.13).
Abigail McLaughlin (Denver, CO) dropped four seconds off of last week's swim in the 200-yard freestyle, touching out in third place on Friday in 2:04.19. McLaughlin added a third-place swim for the Brewers in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.79 seconds.
Quinn Hoagland (Colts Neck, NJ) swam a pair of season best times on Friday, taking fourth-place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.00 and third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:35.43.
In diving, First Year Elizabeth Surgent (Phoenix, AZ) posted a third-place finish in the first round of 1-meter dives with a score of 101.05 and jumped up to a runner-up finish in the second set of dives with a score of 171.45.
Zoe Hoiland (St. Paul, MN) finished in fourth-place in the second round of 1-meter dives with a mark of 124.45.
The Vassar 'B' relay team of Quintana, Lara Chebotarev (East Longmeadow, MA), Alanna Muello (South Windsor, CT) and McLaughlin posted a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay event in a time of 1:54.33.
To close out the meet, Vassar's 'A' squad of Luongo, Quintana, Muello and McLaughin earned a victory in a time of 3:46.08.
