Women's Volleyball Drops Home Match Against #23 Ithaca

Brewers will return to action against Union at home on Wednesday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team played its second of a three game homestand on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers fell to 9-25, 15-25, 16-25 to #23 Ithaca at Kenyon Hall. Vassar moves to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play while the Bombers improve to 19-4 overall and 7-0 in Liberty League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • FIRST SET
    • The Bombers took an early 9-2 lead following three kills from Jamie Koopman and two winners from Faith Sabatier.
    • Vassar cut the lead to 16-6 on a winner from first year Holland Kaplan before the Bombers won seven straight points, including two aces from Ellie Benedict.
    • The Brewers scored three straight, including a winner from sophomore Molly Delahunty, before Ithaca took the first set following a winner from Gabriela Gonzalez-Abreu.
  • SECOND SET
    • Ithaca raced out to a 9-3 lead as Koopman buried two winners along with a kill from Naomi Clauhs.
    • Vassar drew within four on a winner from junior Frannie Anthony-Brumfield until Ithaca rolled its lead up to 10 on a Koopman winner.
    • The Brewers answered with five straight to make it 18-13 following a kill from first year Maura McAusland and an ace from classmate T Petro.
    • Ithaca took the set following two winners each from Clauhs and Koopman along with a kill from Ella Graper.
  • THIRD SET
    • The Bombers held a slim 6-5 edge in the early stages as a McAusland winner kept the lead at one.
    • Ithaca answered with seven straight points as Graper and Clauhs buried two winners along with an ace from Julia Costa.
    • Junior Morgan Miller's ace along with a block from McAusland and sophomore Rebecca Gutierrez cut the lead to 19-12.
    • Ithaca took the final set on a winner from Koopman.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Kaplan tallied five kills and four digs along with McAusland adding five winners.
  • Hale recorded two kills and two blocks while Miller registered five digs.
  • Sophomore Melia Voss handed out nine assists and Petro lifted a team-high six digs.
FOR THE BOMBERS
  • Koopman recorded a match-high 14 kills while Sabatier, Graper and Clauhs each buried eight winners.
  • Gonzalez-Abreu added seven kills and two aces and Benedict and Costa each landed two aces.
  • Wesley Slavin handed out a match-high 35 assists and lifted a match-high 11 digs.
UP NEXT
  • Vassar returns to Kenyon Hall on Wednesday evening as they take on Union at 7:00 p.m.
  • Ithaca plays host to Clarkson on Friday.
