Women's Volleyball Rolls to Sweep Over Bard

Vassar earns third conference victory of the season

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball team coasted to a 25-9, 25-23, 25-17 sweep on the road against conference foe Bard on Wednesday evening. The Brewers improve to 10-8 overall and 3-1 in Liberty League action while the Raptors fall to 9-12 overall and 0-5 in conference matchups

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • FIRST SET
    • Vassar opened the set with a 6-1 lead as sophomore Molly Delahunty buried two kills along with a kill each from first year Holland Kaplan and sophomore Rebecca Gutierrez.
    • Bard trimmed the lead down to 9-7 following winners from Nyla Lawrence and Emily Hall Smith.
    • The Brewers scored the next 11 points with sophomore Ellie Kogan landing five service aces and first year Maura McAusland tallying two kills to coast to the first set victory.
  • SECOND SET
    • The Raptors took a 5-2 lead after two kills from Ryan Lum and one from Becca Wintjen and expanded its lead to 11-6 on an ace from Puja Clements.
    • The Brewers tied the set at 11 all on a block from junior Hailey Hayes and took its first lead at 13-12 on a winner from Hayes.
    • Bard took a 20-16 lead on kills from Adi David and Abi Batingan as Vassar fought back to get within one following kills from Gutierrez and junior Frannie Anthony-Brumfield.
    • Clements' ace got the Raptors ahead 23-20 before the Brewers scored the final five points on two aces from sophomore Melia Voss to take the second set.
  • THIRD SET
    • Vassar raced out to a 10-2 lead early as Kaplan buried four kills along with block from Anthony-Brumfield.
    • Bard cut the lead down to 13-9 on three kills from Lum before Vassar expanded the lead to seven on a Hayes kill.
    • Back-to-back points from Gutierrez pushed the lead to 20-12 as a winner from Anthony-Brumfield clinched the three-set sweep for the Brewers.
FOR THE BREWERS
  • Kaplan tallied nine kills and 12 digs while Gutierrez finished with six winners and two aces.
  • Hayes, McAusland and Anthony-Brumfield each recorded five kills while McAusland lifted 11 digs.
  • Junior Molly Ardren handed out a team-high 17 assists while Voss tallied 15 assists, three aces and six digs.
  • Kogan recorded five aces and five digs for Vassar.
FOR THE RAPTORS
  • Lum recorded a team-high eight kills and 15 digs while Batingan tallied five kills.
  • David registered 14 assists and four digs along with Clements landing two aces and lifted nine digs.
  • Ella Small finished with seven digs and Annie Couey added six digs.

  • Vassar returns to Liberty League action on Friday, October 20th against RIT at home.
  • Bard heads to conference foe Skidmore on Saturday afternoon.
