Vassar Cruises To Season Opening Victory

Eight Brewers score victories on Wednesday

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Swimming team opened the season in strong fashion on Wednesday night, easing to a 129-39 home victory over visiting Bard. Eight different Brewers posted individual victories against the Raptors, including First Years Vivien Li (Pittsburgh, PA), Anna Little (Irwin, PA) and Elizabeth Surgent (Phoenix, AZ).
 
Wednesday's win opens the Brewers' 2023-24 season at 1-0.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar dominated from the outset on Wednesday, taking the first two spots in the 200-yard medley relay to start the night. The team of Jolie Walker (Chicago, IL), Frances Pope (Orinda, CA), Alanna Muello (South Windsor, CT) and Addie Wiener (Maplewood, NJ) scored the win in a time of 1:58.11.
  • Sarah Quintana (Chandler, AZ) scored first place points for the Vassar in initial individual event of the night, swimming a time of 11:31.99 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
  • Bella Rippon (Hersey, PA) followed with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, touching out in a winning time of 2:04.35. Rippon added a second place showing in the 50-yard freestyle in 58.03 seconds.
  • Wiener earned the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle for the Brewers, sprinting to a time of 26.18 seconds.
  • Little earned the first win as a Brewer in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing the event in a time of 2:19.22.
  • Surgent also scored a win in the first meet for Vassar, posting a score of 182.85 in the 1-meter diving event.
  • Alejandra Robins (El Cerrito, CA) opened her senior season in strong fashion, winning the 100-yard butterfly and taking second in the 200-yard IM. The winning time came in 1:01.35 with the runner-up finish coming in 2:21.08.
  • Maya Luongo (Katonah, NY) scored a victory for the Brewers in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing the event in 56.07 seconds.
  •  Li was the third First Year to come away victorious on Wednesday. Li touched out with a winning time in the 100-yard backstroke, showing a time of 1:00.95 and added a second-place finish for the Brewers in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.14.
 
What's Next
  • The Brewers will take to the road for the first time when they travel to Brandies on October 21.
