Brewers Open Season With Victory Over Bard

Jauregui wins twice in collegiate debut

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Swimming team opened the 2023-24 season in strong fashion on Wednesday night, posting a 106-24 home victory over visiting Bard. Five different Brewers were scored as winners on Wednesday, including Lucas Jauregui (Barrington, RI) who scored a pair of wins in his collegiate debut.

Wednesday's win moves Vassar to 1-0 overall on the season.

How It Happened

The Brewers opened the night by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Jauregui, Ricky Kurosawa (Las Vegas, NV), Sam Deluca (Mifflinburg, PA) and Lukas Johnson (Minneapolis, MN) swimming a winning time of 1:39.88.
In the first individual event of the night, Rory Stumpf (Potomac, MD) scored a win for the Brewers in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 1:57.12.
Hayden Ehrenfeld (Long Beach, CA) was the top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle for Vassar, touching out in a time of 22.27 seconds.
Jauregui picked up his first individual victory of the night in the 200-yard individual medley, topping the field in 2:05.80.
Jauregui's second triumph of the evening came in the 100-yard freestyle where he posted a time of 51.69 seconds.
Deluca picked up a victory for the Brewers in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 55.28 seconds.
In diving, Jacob Cerone (New Windsor, NY) had a strong night off both boards for the Brewers. He won the 1-meter event with a score of 167.70 and completed the 3-meter competition with a mark of 191.70.
Jack Kahan (Lewiston, ME) made his collegiate debut for the Brewers, competing in the 1-meter event on Wednesday.

What's Next

Vassar is off until October 21 when it travels to Brandies.
