PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – It was a solid Friday night in the water for the Vassar College men's and women's swimming & diving teams as they competed at Division II Pace University. The Vassar men posted a 159-132 victory, while the Brewers women were 164-118 victors over the Setters.
The night opened with the 1-meter diving events as senior
Evelyn Boyle finished third on the women's side with 187.65 points, while the men's board saw sophomore Jacob Cerone take third with 170.55 points.
Pool events kicked off with the 200-yard medley relay as the Vassar women went 1-2. Leading the way with the victory were rookies
Bella Rippon and
Abbe Colgan, along with seniors
Lillian Lowenthal and
Abby Whittington, who combined for a winning time of 1:52.11. The foursome of rookies
Lilly Masters,
Frances Pope, junior
Alejandra Robins and rookie
Abigail McLaughlin were second in 1:58.01.
The men's event saw rookie Sam Deluca, senior Anthony Cheng and sophomores Ben Glazebnik and Hayden Ehrenfeld earn the win with a time of 1:39.89.
In the 1000-freestyle, rookie
Maleigha Vietti took the women's victory in 11:09.83, while junior
Sarah Quintana was second in 11:14.98. The men's race was won by senior Robbie Perot in 10:13.80, while rookie James Hatch was third in 11:58.50.
Next up in the 200-freestyle, rookie
Addie Wiener was the winner in 1:57.12, while senior
Grace Myers was third in 2:02.99. The men's side saw senior Jason Albaum earn the win, while Glazebnik and junior Lukas Johnson were second (1:52.82) and third (1:53.78), respectively.
In the 50-backstroke, Quintana picked up the win with a time of 28.42, while junior
Jolie Walker was second in 29.67. Senior Leroy Wang and sophomore Tyler Tsukuda tied for fourth on the men's side with a time of 28.79.
Colgan was the women's winner in the 50-breaststroke with a time of 32.17, while the men's race saw Cheng take second with a time of 28.54. In the 100-butterfly, Lowenthal was the winner in 1:01.25, while Robins took second in 1:01.64, while junior
Alanna Muello was third in 1:03.99. The men's event was won by Deluca in 56.03, while junior Rory Stumpf was second in 56.51.
Whittington won the 50-freestyle in 25.75, while sophomore
Maya Luongo and McLaughlin took second (25.99) and third (26.23), respectively. The men's event saw Ehrenfeld post the victory in 22.71. Next up was the 3-meter diving on the men's side as Cerone posted third with 178.50 points.
The 100-free saw Rippon with the victory in 56.07, while Glazebnik was the men's winner in 49.67. In the 100-back, Quintana was the event winner with a time of 1:00.88. In the men's event, Deluca took second overall in 58.99. Colgan took the win in the 100-breast with a mark of 1:11.21, while the men's side saw Cheng earn third in 1:01.90.
In the 500-free, Wiener was second in 5:13.00, followed by rookie
Quinn Hoagland in third (5:34.00), while Johnson took second overall in the men's race with a mark of 5:16.60. The 50-fly was a victory for Luongo in 27.85, while the men's event saw Glazebnik with another win in 24.93.
Robins went on to post the top time in the 200-IM with a mark of 2:17.86, while the men's side saw Cheng with the win in 2:06.45.
In the final race of the evening, the 200-free relay, the foursome of McLaughlin, Wiener, Luongo and Whittington posted the top time of 1:42.42, while the men's event saw Johnson, Albaum, Perot and Ehrenfeld combine for the win in 1:31.96.
Both squads return to action on Saturday when they host Union College at 1pm at Kresge Pool. The meet will also be Senior Day as the Brewers recognize their 10 seniors!
