SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Vassar College Women's Volleyball dropped a four set road contest to Union College on Wednesday night as the Brewers lost 14-25, 26-24, 18-25, 17-25 and fell to 1-2 in Liberty League play. Freshman

Hailey Hayes (Canyon Lake, TX) combined for 22 kills on the night.

Rebecca Gutierrez (Oak Park, IL) each buried a kill to start the night for the Brewers. Following a service error from the Dutchwomen to make the match 8-5 in favor of Union, the Dutchwomen scored 12 of the next 15 points to take a 8-20 lead. Sophomore
Julia Hale (Hillsborough, CA) had two kills late in the set but Union took the first set 14-25.
Union tallied the first five points of the second set and got out to an 8-3 advantage on kills from multiple different hitters. Union got to a four point advantage (8-12) before Vassar tallied nine of the next 10 points on three kills from Delahunty and kills from freshman
Melia Voss (Marietta, GA) and Gutierrez. Union battled back to tie the set at 24 apiece after a kill from Caroline Fraser. However, Delahunty buried a kill to send it to set point and then a block from Gutierrez and Delahunty gave the Brewers a 26-24 second set win.
The Brewers got out to a 4-1 lead in the third set on a service ace from Voss and Hayes kept Vassar's lead at 7-6 after her kill. The Dutchwomen took the lead at 8-11 following another Fraser kill but VC rattled off seven straight points to take a four point lead. Four different Brewers had a kill during the run and Hayes added a service ace. The Dutchwomen tallied nine straight points late in the set and rolled its lead to 16-21. Union won the third set on a kill from Fraser and took the third set 18-25.Â
Hayes tallied three kills in the first six points for Vassar in the fourth set to give the Brewers an early 6-2 lead. Following another Delahunty kill to make the VC lead 10-7, Union fought back and scored the next 10 points to take control of the set at 10-17. Delahunty and Gutierrez each had a kill late for the Brewers but Union took the fourth set on a kill from Shannon McGrath to take the match 3-1.
Delahunty picked up a team-high 12 kills and added two block assists. Hayes added 10 kills while also lifting a team-high15 digs and Gutierrez chipped in six kills and three block assists. Voss handed out 33 assists while adding two block assists and 10 digs. Junior
Maya Levine (Granby, MA) lifted 14 digs for the Brewers.
McGrath buried a game-high 20 kills for Union and tallied four service aces and 16 digs. Nikki Newcomer and Keara Page each added 10 kills while Newcomer added 11 digs and two aces. Haley Kresch handed out 23 assists and Brooke Fleming added 16 assists and 10 digs. Georgia Pool lifted a game-high 20 digs for the Dutchwomen.
Vassar returns to the court on Saturday morning when the Brewers head to William Smith. First serve in the Liberty League contest with the Herons is scheduled for 11:30 am.Â
