POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar Women's Volleyball team dropped a non-conference match against Williams 14-25, 7-25 and 13-25 on Wednesday evening. Freshman
Molly Delahunty (Newton, MA) led the Brewers with five kills on the night.
The Ephs started out strong as they started with a quick 6-1 advantage. A Delahunty service ace stopped the Ephs run at 8-4 early in the first set. Sophomore
Morgan Miller (Lone Tree, CO) picked up a kill to cut the Williams lead to 12-6 but the Ephs went on a 9-4 run to take a 19-10 lead in the set. After back to back Delahunty kills made it 21-12, Williams scored four of the next six points to take the first set win.
After a Delahunty kill to start the second set, Williams tallied the next seven points to take an early lead in the set. Freshman
Rebecca Gutierrez (Oak Park, IL) buried a kill from the middle to stop the run. Miller added another kill in the set but the Ephs raced out to a 16-3 lead late in the second set. After Williams got to a 20-4 advantage, a kill from sophomore
Molly Ardren (Essex, VT) and an ace from Miller gave the Brewers back to back points. The Ephs talllied five of the next six and took the second set.
The third set started out 3-3 after kills from Delahunty and Miller early. Williams then scored the next eight points to take another early set lead. Kills from freshman
Melia Voss (Marietta, GA), Delahunty and Gutierrez cut the lead to 17-9. The Ephs tallied eight of the next 12 points to take the match in the third and final set.
Delahunty finished the night with five kills while Miller added four and Gutierrez added three. Voss handed out 10 assists while senior
Kaitlin Birnbaum (La Jolla, CA) led the team with 12 digs and junior
Maya Levine (Granby, MA) added 10 digs.
Williams had five players with five kills or more as Celia Adams led the way with seven. Lauren Kauppila and Gracie Guidotti each handed out 15 assists as Adams also led the team in digs with 10. The Ephs had four blocks on the night and nine service aces.
The Brewers head to Radnor, P.A. on Saturday to take part in the Cabrini Tri-Match. The first contest with Catholic University is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. while the second match with the Cavaliers is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
