Vassar Falls to Bard in Regular Season Finale

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – With the game tied 2-2 in the fifth, the visiting Bard Raptors used a home run to take the lead and secure a 2-4 victory over Vassar on Sunday afternoon. The Brewers conclude the regular season at 14-20 overall, while the Raptors finish at 15-15.

It was a low-scoring affair, but Bard got on the board at the top of the first inning when Jordan Meyers scored on a passed ball to take a 0-1 lead. In the bottom of the frame, sophomore Jaden Millstein led off with a single to right field and then stole second. The following two batters flew out, but an Adam Talwalkar single let Millstein reach home to tie at 1-1.

In the second, sophomore Reid Lapekas caught a line drive at third base and then got the runner at first to make an impressive double play. The following two innings moved quickly until Bard added one run in the fourth. After Myers doubled to left center, he stole third and scored on a throwing error at home.

Vassar evened the game at 2-2 when Jack Story singled and stole second. Lapekas singled down the left-field line to let Story reach home. At the top of the fifth, Vassar grounded out the first two Raptors' batters before Michael Hannan hit a home run to left field to take a 2-3 lead.

Some strong pitching from Bard kept Vassar with only one more hit for the remainder of the game. The Raptors tacked on one more run in the ninth to hold on to the 2-4 victory.

Senior Dawson Dullnig (1-3) pitched 6.1 innings with six hits, three runs, and three strikeouts. Bard's Andrew Cushieri (2-0) went 5.0 innings with six hits, two runs, and two strikeouts.

Vassar will now play in the crossover series against St. Lawrence next weekend. Time and location are to be determined.
