#31 Brewers roll to big league win over Bombers

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Powered by an outstanding effort from each end of the lineup, the Vassar women's tennis team posted a 9-0 win over Ithaca College in Liberty League action on Saturday at Josselyn Courts. The victory moves the 31st-ranked Brewers to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in league play, while the Bombers slip to 7-4 and 1-2 in the Liberty League.

Doubles action kicked things off as the Vassar duo of rookie Macey Dowd and junior Tatum Blalock powered their way to an 8-2 win against Ithaca's Zoe Davis and Eliana Chelnick from two. Next off was one, as sophomore Sofie Shen and senior captain Melina Stavropoulos gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead with an 8-4 victory over Taylor Crain and Lauren Rodriguez. Three saw Vassar open the 3-0 lead as senior captain Cara Kizilbash and rookie Elyse Duley bested Rebecca Andrews and Kayla Shenk.

In singles action, Kizilbash made it a 4-0 edge for the home team as she posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ekaterina Kelly at five. Stavropoulos secured the match point from four, recording a 6-4, 6-1 win over Davis, while Dowd pushed the lead to 6-0 as she defeated Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-0. From three, Shen notched a 6-3, 6-2 win over Andrews, while at one, Blalock battled to a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory against Crain. Duley rounded out match play from six, also earning a hard-fought victory by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 score over Shenk.

The Brewers return to action next Saturday when they travel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a 2pm match against the Engineers at Sharp Courts. The Bombers are right back in action tomorrow, hosting Union at 2pm.
