SWARTHMORE, PA – Swarthmore College opened a large lead and held paced the entire game, posting a 16-4 win over Vassar College in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet are now 3-0 on the season, while the Brewers move to 1-1 overall.
The homestanding Garnet got things going on a 4-0 run, powered by three goals from Carter Strauch, to start the first quarter. Senior captain
Logan Hyde scored at the 3:24 mark, but the Garnet cashed in once again, scoring a pair of goals, including a man-up tally from Cooper Bucklan for a 6-1 lead after the opening frame.

Connor Deehan, but that momentum was short-lived as Swarthmore scored three straight in the final 3:20 of play, including two from Michael Hardiman for the 9-2 margin after two.
Out of the intermission, the Garnet continued to press, scoring three goals, including one each from Strauch and Hardiman to open a 12-2 advantage.
Both teams had scoring flurries in the final quarter of play as Swarthmore scored four, while the Brewers put two on the board as junior
Riley Olds converted a pass from Hyde at 12:09, while Santise dropped in his second man-up goal of the contest, burying a pass from Olds.
Swarthmore was led by Strauch, who recorded a game-high five goals with an assist for six points. He also had a ground ball and a caused turnover. Hardiman posted four goals with a caused turnover, while Ben Schaeffer notched two tallies with a helper. Jackson Brosgol led all players with three assists on the day, while Joel Paulson went 10-of-12 in the faceoff circle and Ben Horvat was 7-of-11. In goal, the Garnet saw Shane Nachshen record the win with nine saves.
The Brewers were led by Santise's two goals, while Hyde had a goal and a helper, to go along with two ground balls. Sophomore
Thomas Cameron was 3-for-12 in the faceoff circle, while
Ethan Benjamin was 3-for-8 in the circle. Rookie

Ian Zumpano each posted two caused turnovers on the afternoon. In goal, junior
Aidan Gallagher shouldered the loss with seven saves.
For the game, Swarthmore owned a 42-30 lead in shots, also owning the advantage in ground balls by a 28-17 margin. The Brewers were 21-of-28 on the clear, while the Garnet posted a 21-of-24 mark in clears and owned the faceoff margin by a 17-6 advantage.
Vassar returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Keene State for a 5pm match on Weinberg Turf Field.
