Men's Soccer Selected for NCAA Tournament

Brewers earn At-Large bid for first appearance since 2016

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar College men's soccer team has received an At-Large berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. The Brewers will face Babson College in the First Round on Saturday, Nov. 12 on the campus of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. Game time is set for 1:30pm.

Vassar enters this year's tournament following an appearance in the Liberty League Tournament Semifinals on Friday. The Brewers, who were the second seed, shouldered a tough 3-2 loss in a penalty kick shootout to third-seeded Skidmore College. Both the Brewers and Liberty League Champion, St. Lawrence were selected for this year's NCAA Tournament.

The Brewers are 9-3-5 overall on the season, having posted a 5-0-4 mark during Liberty League play in 2022. Babson enters this year's NCAA Tournament having won the NEWMAC Championship for the third straight season with a 1-0 victory over Emerson. The Beavers are currently 15-3-2 on the season, having posted a 7-0-0 mark in conference play.

In the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III Poll, Babson is sitting 13th in the country. As far as the Regional Rankings, the Beavers claim the top spot in Region II, while Vassar slots third in the Region III rankings.

Saturday's contest will mark the first ever game between Vassar and Babson in men's soccer history. The Beavers did not play any Liberty League opponent this season, while the Brewers didn't face a NEWMAC opponent in 2022. Amongst the other teams in this year's field, Vassar has faced both Stevens (2-0 loss) and St. Lawrence (1-1 tie). Babson has faced Williams (1-1 tie), Amherst (3-1 loss) and Tufts (0-0 tie).

The Beavers are led by 37th-year head coach Jon Anderson, who has now had 19 teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The team's most recent trip to the tournament came last season as the Beavers advanced to the Second Round.

The Brewers are guided by first-year head coach Jonathan Hood, who has helped Vassar return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2016 season when they faced Elizabethtown. This will mark the program's fifth all-time appearance in the tournament.

The winner of the Babson-Vassar match will face the winner of first match of the day between host-Bowdoin College and Merchant Marine Academy on November 13. The match will preceed the Brewers match with an 11am start. The entire interactive bracket can be viewed here.
