Swimming & Diving Falls in Dual Meet Action at RPI

Vassar men shoulder 187-87 loss; Women fall 184-115

TROY, N.Y. – The Vassar College men's and women's swimming and diving teams took to the water on Saturday, competing at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in dual meet action at Robison Pool. The Engineers women posted a 184-115 victory over Vassar, while the RPI men had a 187-87 win against the Brewers.

The meet opened with the 200-medley relay as the women's foursome of junior Sarah Quintana, freshman Abbe Colgan and seniors Lillian Lowenthal and Abby Whittington posted second overall in 1:51.19, while the men's side saw rookie Sam Deluca, seniors Anthony Cheng and Jason Albaum, along with sophomore Hayden Ehrenfeld finish second in 1:41.22.

The women's 1000-freestyle had a solid runner-up on the women's side for rookie Maleigha Vietti, who posted a time of 11:04.48. Classmate Addie Wiener was fourth in 11:07.90. Next up in the 200-free, rookie Abigail McLaughlin was second in 2:01.75, followed by senior Grace Myers in third (2:03.01) and rookie Lilly Masters in fourth (2:04.73). The men's event was won by senior Robbie Perot, who posted a time of 1:47.

In the 100-backstroke, the women's event was won by Quintana, who touched the wall in 59.57. She was followed by rookie Bella Rippon in second with a time of 1:00.43. The men's side saw Deluca earn runner-up in 56.93.

The women's 100-breaststroke saw Colgan take third in 1:10.56, while Chen was the runner-up on the men's side with a time of 1:01.35. In the 200-butterfly, junior Alejandra Robins was second overall with a time of 2:16.52, while Albaum was fourth in the men's event in 2:13.50.

The 50-free saw a 1-2 punch on the women's side as junior Alanna Muello won in 25.75, edging out her teammate, Whittington who was second in 25.76. Sophomore Maya Luongo was fourth overall in 26.03. The men's side saw sophomore Ben Glazebnik finish second in 22.26, while Ehrenfeld was third in 22.38.

In the women's 1-meter diving, senior Evelyn Boyle was fourth overall with 188.47 points, while rookie Zoe Hoiland was sixth with 112.80 points. The men's 3-meter event saw sophomore Jacob Cerone post 194.62 points.

Returning to the pool, Whittington posted second in the 100-free with a time of 55.90, followed by McLaughlin in third (56.09) and Muello in fourth (56.16). The men's side saw Glazebnik finish second in 49.54, while Ehrenfeld was third (51.26).

The 200-backstroke saw Rippon finish second overall in 2:12.39, while the men's event saw rookie James Hatch also post second with a mark of 2:12.48. The 200-breast saw Colgan earn second in 2:34.16, while rookie Frances Pope was fourth in 2:43.15. The men's event was won by Cheng, who posted a time of 2:13.40.

In the 500-free, Vietti paced the Vassar women, finishing second in 5:27.15, while Wiener was fourth in 5:28.25. The men's event saw Perot take third in 4:59.11, while junior Lukas Johnson was fourth (5:28.10). Robins then earned third in the women's 100-butterfly in 1:01.04, while the men's event saw Glazebnik take third in 54.69, followed by Deluca in fourth (56.68) and Albaum in fifth (56.96).

Diving resumed in the women's 3-meter as Boyle finished fifth with 168.22 points, while Cerone was second in the 1-meter with 185.47 points.

Quintana posted second overall in the 200-yard Individual Medley for the women, posting a mark of 2:17.68, while Lowenthal was fourth in 2:20.62. The men's event saw Perot take third (2:04.81), while Cheng was fourth (2:07.25).

The final event of the day was the 400-free relay as the foursome of McLaughlin, Luongo, Myers and Whittington posted second overall in 3:45.23, while Muello, Masters, Wiener and sophomore Jordan Marlow were third in 3:47.62. The men's side saw Glazebnik, Albaum, Johnson and Ehrenfeld finish second overall in 3:19.79.

Both squads return to action on Friday, November 18 in a 6pm dual meet at SUNY New Paltz.
