Field Hockey Takes Down Union, 8-0

Bauman and Kass combined for three goals on Senior Day

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College Field Hockey team earned its second Liberty League victory of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers took down Union, 8-0, at Weinberg Field. Seniors Avery Bauman (Westbrook, CT) and Sam Kass (Ann Arbor, MI) combined for three goals on Senior Day.

Vassar got the offense going early as Bauman tallied her first goal of the game off a penalty corner and a blocked shot from senior Ella Pearl (San Francisco, CA) three and a half minutes into the first quarter. Sophomore Leilani Llamas (Grapevine, TX) scored the second Vassar goal after moving through the middle of the field and knocking past the Dutchwomen goalkeeper two minutes later.

Following a penalty corner with 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter, junior Hailey Brigger (San Diego, CA) got her shot saved by Union defender Isabel Lubin but then was awarded a penalty stroke. Brigger buried the shot just inside the right post to make the Brewers lead 3-0 after one quarter.

The Brewers got on the board once more in the first half as sophomore Gianna Trunfio (Clinton, N.Y.) scored off a loose ball in the box following a corner from junior Maggie Werner (Berkeley, CA) with two minuts left in the second quarter.

Trunfio tallied her second goal of the contest just under four minutes into the second half as she scored off a blocked shot by the Union defense. About five minutes later, Kass scored her first goal of the season as Vassar pushed its lead up to 6-0.

Junior Jaclyn Narleski (Basking Ridge, NJ) scored her third goal of the season off a sweet feed from Brigger off a corner to make it 7-0 after three quarters. The Brewers tallied its eighth and final goal about eight minutes into the final quarter as Bauman scored her second goal of the contest off another assist from Brigger.

Bauman tallied her first two goals of the season while Trunfio is now second on the team in goals with six. Brigger finished off a strong four point day after her seventh goal of the season and two assists. Junior Sarah Dumaresq (Barnstable, MA) earned her eighth win of the season as she made one save and junior Adah Anderson (San Diego, CA) made a defensive save for the Brewers.

Emily Dawson and Megan Dorsey each had a shot on goal for the Dutchwomen and freshman goalkeeper Sophia Brady made nine saves.

The Brewers finished the contest with a 25-2 edge in shots as well as 18-2 in shots on goal. Vassar also held the edge in penalty corners at 10-1.

Vassar moves to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League following today's victory and will return to Weinberg Field on Friday when the Brewers welcome conference foe Rochester. The contest with the Yellowjackets is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
