Women's Soccer Set for Liberty League Tournament Appearance

Fifth-seeded Brewers head to fourth-seeded RIT for First Round action on Tuesday

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Liberty League Women's Soccer Championship field is set and action begins on Tuesday as the Vassar College Women's Soccer team will be seeded fifth and will travel to fourth-seeded RIT (11-3-2; 5-3-1 LL) in a first round matchup on Tuesday, November 1. Time is yet to be determined. Vassar finished the regular season with a 8-4-5 overall record and finished 4-2-3 in Liberty League action.

Vassar is led in scoring through 17 games by junior forward Claire Karlin (Arlington, VA), who has scored a team-high six goals for 12 points. One of her tallies was a game-winning goal. Senior captain and midfielder Violet Munnelly (Valley Cottage, NY) is second on the team in points with 10, scoring four goals with two assists, having played in all 17 games this season. Sophomore forward Madison Bouggess (Swedesboro, NJ) rounds out the top three with four goals and an assist for nine points.

The Brewers defense has been outstanding this season, allowing just seven goals through 17 games for a .41 goals against average. Leading the charge has been junior Jessica Young (The Woodlands, TX), the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week for Oct. 24th after helping the Brewers to a 0-0 tie against then-#5 William Smith.

Junior goalie Teresa Zimmer (Long Valley, NJ) - the league's Defensive Performer of the Week on Sept. 19 - has an 8-4-5 overall mark on the season, having started all 17 games for the Brewers. She owns a 0.43 goals against average, making 35 saves with a .833 save percentage over 1474:08 minutes. Zimmer currently ranks third amongst the league leaders in goals against average and is the overall leader in shutouts per game (.529) with nine overall.

PREVIEWING RIT: The Tigers are led in scoring by Sam Halligan, who has nine goals and seven assists for 25 points - leading the Liberty League in all three categories. Maddy Bullis has recorded four goals with two assists for 10 points, while Elena Onodera has four goals and a helper for nine points. In goal, Darcie Jones owns a 7-3-2 mark with a 0.69 GAA and .765 save percentage over 1047:21 minutes of play.

REGULAR SEASON MATCHUP: In the regular season contest with RIT, the Brewers capitalized on a first half goal from sophomore midfielder Noella Namba to hold on September 24. Both teams had a number of chances, but the visiting Brewers were the only ones to capitalize as Zimmer posted four saves for the shutout victory.

HOW TO FOLLOW: Tuesday's Liberty League First Round matchup will feature Live Stats and will have Live Video.

CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD: The William Smith Herons (11-1-4; 6-0-3 LL) earned the top seed, while the Ithaca Bombers (11-3-3; 6-2-1 LL) secured the second-seed. Both have earned the First Round bye. The other First Round matchup features third-seeded Skidmore (10-2-3; 5-1-3 LL) hosting sixth-seeded Clarkson (9-5-3; 4-3-2 LL) on Tuesday in the First Round. The winner of the Vassar/RIT contest on Tuesday will travel to William Smith on Friday while Ithaca will play host to the Skidmore/Clarkson winner. The Championship match will be held on Sunday, November 6 at the highest remaining seed.
