POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College Field Hockey team dropped the regular season finale against New Paltz, 1-0, at home on Saturday evening. Junior goalkeeper
Sarah Dumaresq (Barnstable, MA) made four saves for Vassar on the day.
Vassar picked up two quick penalty corners in the first three minutes but only could get one shot off from junior
Maggie Werner (Berkeley, CA) that went wide. New Paltz got the game-winner at the 8:36 mark following a goal from Natasia Plunkett on an assist from Morgan Woolley.
The Brewers got three more corners in the final four minutes as Hawks goalkeeper Gail Comiskey turned away a shot from junior
Hailey Brigger (San Diego, CA) to keep the one goal advantage.
In the second quarter, Dumaresq made two saves at the midway point as Hannah Ackerman and Angelina Regels each had shots on goal 14 seconds apart. Junior
Gianna Trunfio (Clinton, NY) had two shots go wide in the period and senior
Sam Kass (Ann Arbor, MI) also had a shot miss wide.
New Paltz had the only shot on goal in the third quarter as Plunkett recorded the lone shot as it went wide of the net. The Hawks had an opportunity to push its lead to two on a shot from Rachel Tama but Dumaresq made a key save to keep the game at 1-0. Sophomore
Max Meijaard (Heemstede, The Netherlands) had the final shot on goal for the Brewers as Comiskey made another stop to earn the 1-0 victory.
The Brewers will return to action on Tuesday evening as they play host to Skidmore in the First Round of the Liberty League Championship. The contest with the Thoroughbreds is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Weinberg Field
