POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College Women's Rugby team blanked Albany, 95-0, on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers improved to 2-0 on the season. Senior Caeli Porette tallied five tries in the victory for Vassar.

Vassar wasted no time getting into gear and although the back division is new there was pace and purpose to their attack. Second semester rugby player Caeli Porette was first over the whitewash and they collected five tries through the course of the 80 minutes.

Hooker Katie Canavan stole the ball against the head and Number 8 Lauren Showalter needed no second invitation to pick up and run. Freshmen Sarah Winickoff and Sophia Bailey showed promise, the former with a feisty running style breaking tackles and the latter with good pace to outdistance the defense.

There were few lineouts as tries and restarts dominated the game and at scrums Vassar had a distinct edge. Despite the final scoreline the Vassar team did not run up the score and the game was played in a good spirit. All 8 substitutes were used and thus some valuable time was provided to many of the new faces of Vassar Rugby.
