WORCESTER, MA - It was an outstanding day of action for the Vassar College women's volleyball team on Saturday as they posted their first wins of the 2021 campaign in tri-match action. The Brewers posted a 3-0 victory over Fitchburg State, then went on to edge Clark University in the final of the games hosted by Clark.
In game one against Fitchburg, the Brewers posted a 25-13 opening set win. VC cruised to a 25-8 victory in the second, closing out the win in the third set by a 25-19 margin. Rookie
Hailey Hayes led all players with 12 kills on the day. She also had six digs.

Claire Basler-Chang added five kills with a dig and three service aces, while classmate
Madison Wilson had 11 assists and a match-best four service aces. Rookie
Molly Ardren had a team-high 15 assists, while classmate
Julia Hale has a block assist and a block solo.
In the match against the host Cougars, Vassar dropped the first set by a tight 28-26 margin. The Brewers rebounded to tie things at 1-all in the second with a 25-22 win, but Clark once again answered, regaining the edge with a 25-20 win. Vassar caught fire in the fourth set, battling it out with Clark to even the match behind a 29-27 score. In the final set, Vassar came out victorious, posting an 18-16 margin for the five-set win.
Basler-Chang led all players in the match with 24 kills with 18 digs. Hayes was close behind with 20 kills. Senior
Sara Ehnstrom posted match-bests in service aces (4) and digs (34), while Hale chipped in with a block solo and two block assists. Rookie
Frannie Anthony-Brumfield also had two block assists.
Vassar, which is now 2-4 on the season, handed Clark (5-1) its first loss of the 2021 season. Official and full stats from both of today's matches are forthcoming due to an issue that didn't allow for in-game stats. The Brewers return to action on Wednesday in a 6pm match at Williams College.
