POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Powered by a strong effort in singles and doubles, the Vassar College women's tennis team defeated Union College by a 6-2 margin in Liberty League action on Wednesday. The Brewers remain perfect on the season and are now 4-0 (4-0 LL), while the Dutchwomen move to 2-3 (2-3 LL).

Cara Kizilbash recorded an 8-3 win over Union's Sophie Brown and Dan D'Onofrio from the second flight. Vassar's first doubles duo of
Tatum Blalock and
Melina Stavropoulos then powered their way to an 8-5 win against Megan Brown and Marilena Karadimou.
Union picked up its first point as Gracie Nicol and Cathy Xing combined to post an 8-2 win over Vassar juniors

Heading into singles action, the Brewers made it a 3-1 advantage as Kizilbash notched a 6-0, 6-2 win over Brown at four. Stavropoulos picked up the next VC point with a 6-0, 7-5 victory against Karadimou, while at five, Ehnstrom defeated D'Onofrio by a 6-2, 6-1 margin to clinch the match for the Brewers.
Union earned their second point from six as Xing earned a 5-3, 6-1 win over Pihlstrom, but VC made it 6-1 shortly after when Shen posted a 7-6 (1-0-), 6-0 victory against Nicol from three. The first singles match between Blalock and Brown was neck-and-neck with a score of 7-5 in the Brewers favor to open and a 2-3 margin for Union in the second set before a strong rain and wind storm concluded the match.
Vassar will play its final regular season game on Saturday when it travels to Saratoga Springs for an 11am match against the Thoroughbreds. Union is back on the court on Friday in a 4pm contest at RPI in Troy.
