Brewers Fall In A Pair of Games to the Raptors

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The visiting Bard Raptors spoiled the Vassar baseball team's weekend sweep, with the Brewers dropping both games in Saturday's doubleheader. Vassar fell 4-5 in game one and then lost 11-15 in the second. Vassar now falls to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Liberty League. Bard moves to 4-6 and 3-3 in the conference.

Vassar was able to tie 4-4 in the sixth inning after playing from behind in game one. Bard scored three runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead before the Brewers slowly chipped away. A home run from Ezra Caspi got things started, and then a Caspi triple in the fifth brought in two more runs. The Brewers tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Jaden Millstein scored from a Caspi sacrifice fly.

Bard only needed one run in the seventh to secure the win. Michael Kurlan singled to left field to bring Spencer Checkoway home.

Alex Warren, Caspi, and Andrew Kanellis each tacked two hits, with Caspi leading the team with three RBI.

Matt McGannon started as pitcher and went 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. Ryan Harris went 3.1 innings with six strikeouts. Aidan Risse began to for the Raptors, going 5.0 innings and struck out four Vassar batters.

Vassar jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two and then added six more runs in the fifth to take a commanding 11-5 lead. Bard then exploded for nine runs in the eighth to pull out the comeback victory before the game was called early for darkness.

Bats were hot on both sides, with Bard earning 15 hits as opposed to Vassar's 12. Warren, Millstein, Jason Salerno, and Kanellis had two hits each, and four players had two RBI.

The Brewers are back in action on May 1 when they travel to Union for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
