POTSDAM, N.Y. – Despite 20 points from junior Zach Bromfeld (Woodmere, NY), the Vassar men's basketball team dropped a 72-84 decision to Clarkson on Friday night. With the loss, Vassar slips to 7-11 overall and 3-8 in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights move to 5-13 and 3-8 in the conference.

Including Bromfeld, four Brewers scored in double figures. Freshman Avni Mustafaj (Yonkers, NY) logged 16 points and four rebounds, while Zach Johnson (San Francisco, CA) had 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Junior Lance Tebay (Virginia Beach, VA) added 11 points and six boards.

Four Golden Knights reached double figures, with Matt Higgins recorded a game-high 22 points. Reese Swedberg was next with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The Brewers only led three times, coming in the first half. Clarkson took a one-point lead after a Roburt Welch three-point, and after three minutes of no scoring, Vassar took the lead. Freshman Kevin McAuliffe (Bethesda, MD) sank a triple off a Josh Brownridge (New York, NY) assist. Mustafaj then netted a layup the next possession to put Vassar up 18-14 at 11:06. The Golden Knights answered, but Johnson scored to keep it a four-point lead. Two straight treys from Clarkson's Joe Lucas put the home team up 22-20.

After seven back-and-forth baskets, Vassar tied the game 28-28 from another Johnson layup. Brownridge drained a three-pointer to push the lead to three, but a Clarkson went on a 13-2 in the final five minutes of the half to take a 41-33 advantage.

The Golden Knights held a double-digit lead the entire second half, leading by as much as 21. Vassar pulled within 11 after a Bromfeld three-pointer with under a minute, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
