ONEONTA, N.Y. – Freshman
Sam Kass (Ann Arbor, MI) netted the only goal of No. 6 Vassar field hockey's 1-0 win over Hartwick on Wednesday afternoon. The Brewers have recorded their fourth consecutive shutout with the win and now move to 8-0. Hartwick falls to 6-2 with the loss.
The first quarter was all Vassar, with the Brewers holding a 5-0 shot advantage.
Grace Yacura (Ashburn, VA) and
Dara Studnitzer (New City, NY) fired off two early shots, but both were deflected by Hawks' goalkeeper Allyson Osborne.
Grace Amell (West Hartford, CT) then almost scored in her fourth straight game at 12:20 when she hit post instead.
Avery Bauman (Westbrook, CT) collected the rebound launched the ball at Osborne. She made the save, but Kass collected the ball made the score by the right post.
Hartwick picked up the pace in the second with two shots on goal from Allyson Quirk and Sydney Gagnon that were turned away by senior goalkeeper
Liz Rotolo (Lebanon, NJ). Gagnon had one more shot in the final minutes of the half, but Rotolo was there again for the stop.
Vassar went on to outshoot Hartwick 6-4 in the second half with neither side scoring. Rotolo finished the game with five saves, while the Hawks' Osborne had nine. Rotolo now has three shutouts this season.
The Brewers begin Liberty League play on Saturday when they play RPI at 1 p.m. on Weinberg Field.
