ROCHESTER, NY – After Rochester scored three straight goals to tie the game, the Vassar College women's lacrosse team (5-4, 2-2 Liberty) found the back of the net twice in the final 10 minutes to earn a 12-10 victory over the Yellowjackets (4-6, 2-4 Liberty) at Fauver Stadium on Saturday. With the victory, the Brewers snapped a two-game losing streak.
Rochester took an early 2-0 lead before Vassar countered with five straight tallies to go ahead 5-2 midway through the first half. A pair of goals by Jamison Seabury brought the Yellowjackets within 5-4, but
Caeli Porette (Stony Point, NY) scored at the 8:25 mark to bring the Brewers' advantage back to two at 6-4. Rochester added a late goal to pull within 6-5 at halftime.
The Yellowjackets tied it at 6-6 less than a minute into the second half, but the Brewers responded with three straight scores to go back up, 9-6. After
Alessandra Fable's (Orlando, FL) third goal of the half made it 10-7 with 19:34 remaining, Rochester went on a 3-0 spurt to level the score once more at 10-10. However,
Kelly Pushie (Mahwah, NJ) put Vassar back in front when she found the back of the net with 9:22 left. Porette then added an insurance goal, as the Brewers notched a 12-10 win.
Pushie led the Brewers with five points, tallying three goals and two assists. Fable also had a hat trick, while
Fiona MacLeod (Garden City, NY) added two goals and two assists. Porette finished with four ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers to go along with a pair of goals.
Tillie Newcomb (Denver, CO), meanwhile, collected a game-high eight ground balls.
Jackie Molloy (Buffalo Grove, IL) (5-4) stopped 12 Rochester shots in the victory.
For the Yellowjackets, Seabury notched four goals and controlled four draws. Mary Panepento and Marina Kern added two goals apiece. Panepento also picked up four ground balls, while Paige Smith registered five draw controls. In addition to securing a team-best five ground balls, goalkeeper Carlie Bendvaid (4-4) made seven saves.
On Wednesday, the Brewers wrap up their four-game conference road trip by visiting Skidmore (8-3, 5-1 Liberty) at 6 p.m.
