ANNADALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Vassar men's lacrosse team shut out the Raptors in the first half, and only allowed two in the second on their way to a 17-2 victory on Wednesday evening. Freshman
Logan Hyde led the way with his second-straight hat trick as the Brewers picked up their first Liberty League win of the season.
Vassar moves to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the Liberty League, while Bard drops to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
The Brewers opened the first quarter with four goals from
Joseph Bradley,
Michael Mullen, Hyde and
Spencer Duryee. Vassar then erupted for seven goals in the second to pull away with an 11-0 halftime lead. As a team, the Brewers outshot the Raptors 36-5 in the first half. Vassar opened the second half the same as the first, scoring four unanswered.
Bard finally got on the board at 13:44 in the fourth, but the Brewers responded with two goals. Bard scored the final goal of the game. Â Â
Hyde finished with three goals, while Mullen, Duryee and
Joseph Bradley each had two goals.
Connor Deehan,
TK Murphy, Tomas Meade,
Tommy Van Pelt,
Cameron Erdman,
Austin Mello,
Isaac Gallogly and
Michael Killion all had one goal. Deehan led the team with two assists.
Matthew Lowery was almost perfect at faceoffs, winning 15-of-17 and also had a game-high nine groundballs.
Zack Henig recorded three caused turnovers, while Erdman and
Henry Friedman each had two.
Erik Mikelinich and
Devin Lee played a half each in goal. Mikelinich made three saves and Lee had four.
Vassar is back home next Wednesday to face RPI at 6 p.m. in Liberty League play.
