Brewers Score Big Early In Win

OLD WESTBURY, NY- Scoring six runs in the top of the second inning, the Vassar College baseball team collected its second straight win as it defeated the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers 9-7 inside Jackie Robinson Athletic Center Wednesday.

With the 9-inning win the Brewers move to a record of 8-7 with freshman Zach Magee (Indianapolis, IN) earning his first win of the season.

After a strong first at bat, closing the first half inning with two runners on base, the Brewers look to capitalize in the second.

With the bases loaded off of a fielding error, a wild pitch and a Matt Schwartz (Dix Hills, NY) single through the left side, Connor Levchuck (Greenlawn, NY) stepped to the plate hitting a single to shortstop and sending Jesse Mulham (Syossest, NY) home.

With two outs, a Panthers fielding error allowed Daniel Bonfiglio (New York, NY) to reach first, shifting the other two runners forward. Bryan Rubin (Bryn Mawr, PA) approached the plate next for the Brewers and connected with a single to right center, Bonfiglio advanced, Levchuck advances and Schwartz crossed home plate.

The seventh batter of the inning, Matt Martino (Hauppauge, NY) doubled to left field as Bonfiglio and Levchuck scored. Evan Trausch flied out to right field center for Rubin to plate the sixth run of inning.

The inning ended with two runners left on base.

Old Westbury got on the board in the bottom of the second scoring five runs. Vassar responded with Rubin reaching on a fielder's choice and securing an RBI in the top of the third.

The Panthers would score an additional two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game however, a pair of Pinataro RBIs would solidify the win for the Brewers.

Pinataro, Rubin and Martino all notched 2 RBIs while Bonfiglio, Martino, and Pinataro each got three hits.

The Brewers return to the mound Friday, March 29 as they host Clarkson University inside Prentiss Baseball Field.
